We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Meisner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has always been difficult for me, as I’m naturally pretty anxious. However, there is no growth in comfort. So I started to get comfortable getting uncomfortable. Quitting my 9-5 at an architecture firm in 2022 and moving across the country to LA was a huge risk. I had no job here, no plan, and about $6,000 in my account (which doesn’t go far in LA). I had no idea if it was gonna work but I knew if I stayed in Ohio, I’d always regret not at least trying. I was more afraid of being complacent than failing. So I made the move and struggled for a bit. Two years later I’m a personal trainer and social media manger making about $60k/year and I have a podcast called Shit’s Hard. I make my own schedule, I have my ideal clientele and I love my job. I don’t have to wait until the weekend to have fun, I enjoy everyday, all because 2 years ago I took a huge risk and left Ohio. Everything has a funny way of working itself out, I know I’m exactly where I’m suppose to be. I refuse to let fear guide my decisions in life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my podcast, Shit’s Hard, about 2 years ago. There is 2 seasons out with over 40 episodes total. Starting a podcast was not at all easy and I had no idea what I was getting into. I bought the cheapest mic on amazon, got on my laptop from 2017 and just figured it out. Over the past 2 years I’ve upgraded my equipment, shot a new intro video, and honed in on my editing style/skill. The best advice I ever got on content and social media was just start creating. Whatever ideas you have – just make the video, the episode, or take the picture and throw it up on social media. You never know what’s gonna hit and if it doesn’t you just got one step closet to perfecting your craft. You can’t fail at creating content if you love what you create. I’m currently working on season 3 and still learning!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in LA, there are obviously a million options but for me it depends on the weather. In the fall or spring, I really like the hot springs up in Montecitio, it’s about a 4 mile hike with hot springs at the top, best for a chilly day. If it’s Summer, I drive up to Malibu, the beaches and vies are unbeatable. My favorite thing about LA is that there is like 100 coffee shops within 5min of my house, Coffee and Plants or The Boy and the Bear in Pasadena are my current favorites. The best food I’ve had in LA so far is in koreatown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My ex best friend moved across the country with me in 2022. She is probably the most supportive person I’ve had in my life in terms of career. We don’t talk anymore, but she’s the one person who has always encouraged my dreams and saw the vision I had for myself. She genuinely believed I was capable of anything I set my mind to and more. She helped me shoot the podcast cover photo for like 4 hours until I was satisfied, she listened to every episode even though she had already heard the content from me earlier in the week, and she supported every decision I made. I know she felt real pride in me and my accomplishments and I miss having her on my team. The universe had other plans for us, but I’m grateful I had the time I did with her. I know she’s always cheering me on from the sidelines,
