We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia Steppacher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amelia, how does your business help the community?
Giving back is a top priority for me, and always has been since starting Amelia Rose in 2007. The first non profit I collaborated with was Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, aka The MSPCA. In 2008 I worked with the development team to design a custom heart paw print charm necklace. At that time I decided that I would fund the start up costs, donate my time as well as the custom packaging. Thereafter, and only if the project did well, I would assist with re-ordering to ensure the wholesale costs were passed on to the non profit. Since this first project, I have also collaborated with The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, Experience Camps as well as local Boston hospitals. 100% of all proceeds raised go directly to the non profits and to date these non profits have cumulatively raised over $150,000 from custom jewelry sales!

Often I dream in color, literally. Sometimes a new design will be bouncing around my head, not quite there and then a good night’s rest is often the catalyst for putting it all together. Flowers and being outdoors always brings inspiration as well. Since childhood I have had a creative flair and the combination of designing jewelry while running a company has turned out to be a perfect match for my background and skillset. Formerly trained as an attorney, I do not miss practicing law, but am grateful for that background as it is helpful daily in running a company. That said, designing fuels my creative outlet. I really have two sides to my job, artistic as well as administrative, but I find the combination of the two is the right balance.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hopkinton, Massachusetts is known for being the start of the Boston Marathon. It’s also home to good people, kind people and has a wonderful sense of community. My family and I recently fell in love with kayaking at the state park. Gorgeous setting surrounded by tall pine trees and just an awesome/mindful experience. Central Public House makes the best spicy margaritas and in good weather the outdoor patio is fun for people watching. When not in Hopkinton we do spend a lot of time on Cape Cod, in particular the idyllic town of Chatham. Walking Main Street, hiking around the many nearby beaches and of course biking on the Cape Cod Rail Trail! So much to do in this part of the east coast!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tory Johnson has been my biggest supporter since we met in 2011. At the time I was a new mom, relatively new business owner and just getting started with trying to spread the word on Amelia Rose. Tory took a huge leap of faith and put Amelia Rose on Good Morning America on her Deals and Steals segment. Literally overnight my company took off. The exposure that first opportunity brought and all subsequent collaborations since have allowed me to reach customers around the country and around the world. To say I am forever grateful is an understatement. Tory practices what she preaches and is the biggest champion of small businesses.
