We had the good fortune of connecting with Amère Blackwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amère, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a kid I always felt connected to my artistic side in a way I never felt with anything else. Some may call it a soul calling but I think that’s a good term for it. I focus on Acting and Music primarily, since I’m trained in those arts specifically. I’ve worked hard to develop a unique skill set and connect to people in many ways. Weather it’s Comedy, Drama, Pop, or Opera, I give myself in my art and I become one with it.

What keeps you busy professionally?
I like to keep busy by working (of course) that could be on set, stage, or working on things that stimulate my creative mind. Going to places I’ve never been, learning about something new, since I am an actor I like to experience as much as I can to really build truth to comment to a character.

I’m currently in a play in Culver City called The Enchanted Bookshop, it’s theatre in the parks for kids. I did children’s theatre growing up so it really has helped me connect to my roots as an actor! Children can be the harshest critics, but I’m hoping that we can interest some kids to join theatre and pass down an age old art form.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Contrary to my past with ticks, I love hiking (with the proper precautions!!). Runyon Canyon, the Hollywood Sign, and Wisdom Tree, there’s never a dull moment!

If I’m not scaling a mountain side, you can usually find me shopping on Melrose. I love vintage and antique shops! The Melrose Trading Post is an ideal way to spend your Sunday and support local businesses!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom has been a huge influence in my creative pursuits. She has been the biggest supporter and has never discouraged me. She’s shown a lot of tough love, but that has led to where I am today and I will always be grateful for her belief in me.
