We had the good fortune of connecting with Amie Davies and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
One day on a beach in Malibu, my colleague and friend, Maria DelCorso, and I sat watching surfers while talking about some of the struggles our individual clients were facing. Among those struggles, there seemed to be a common thread. So many clients were treading water because they were doing all they could just to keep up with their workload. They were having difficulties with time management, prioritization, organization, emotional regulation, and staying focused. These problems affected our clients in their home and social life, at school, and at work. We thought, What if there was another way?
So many of the clients we see were lacking executive function skills, skills they had never been taught. Thus, the idea of New Agenda was born! We saw the need and decided to create the solution. I had no experience running a business, but for some reason believed I could. My motto? Just jump. I always loved that quote by Richard Branson, “Say yes, then figure it out later.” So that’s what we did.
We work with a wide range of clients. One of our biggest areas of growth has been with adults, especially creatives! People with ADHD often excel at thinking outside the box. Their minds can jump between ideas quickly, making them natural idea generators. This is the foundation of creativity, seeing connections others might not notice. However, it can cause problems in managing home and work routines, the monotonous business-side of life. Our company works with creatives to get their life on track and automate some of the mundane routines.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are an executive function coaching practice for individuals ages 9-99. We work with clients who have a wide range of abilities and challenges. Many of our clients have ADHD, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed. Our coaches work with clients in person at our Santa Monica office, in the client’s home, or in the community as needed. We also offer virtual sessions if it is a good fit for our client’s needs. We pride ourselves on making sure the client and coach are a good match skillwise, but also personality-wise.

Establishing a new business was a labor of love. I did not have any business experience, and it was a huge learning curve! Over the past two years, I have had to learn an insane amount of new technology platforms, human resource compliance, and various state laws and regulations. The biggest lesson I have learned this year is to ask for help. Ask a friend. Ask Google. Use the chat feature on products. I would spend so much time trying to troubleshoot things myself, when the fix may have been simple had I just asked. I was wasting time that could have been better spent. It is also helpful to reach out to the Small Business Association. They will partner you with mentor experts in the field for the questions you have. It’s an invaluable FREE resource. Take advantage of it! If you have the money, get yourself a professional photographer and a graphic designer. It makes all the difference in your professional look. Shout out to professional photographer Andreas Branch and Kelcey Newman from Attain Media for their vision, guidance, and patience!

This is a passion project for my co-founder, Maria DelCorso, and myself. We love what we do and so do our coaches! We work one-on-one with our clients and get to witness positive life changes happen in real time. There is no set curriculum we use, and our coaches individualize everything based on our client’s needs and goals. Our interview process for hiring new coaches is pretty intense, and I can say we have hired the best of the best. We have assembled an incredible team and their dedication and passion for the work is evident. They are great at connecting with clients and getting them moving in the right direction.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone who has never been to LA visits, a city tour is the way to go. It’s definitely worth the ticket price to have someone else drive you around to all the touristy spots, and you don’t have to worry about parking!

Some of our must-do restaurants include Maccheroni Republic in downtown LA where they make their own pasta. Go early! It gets crowded. Lavo on Sunset Blvd. is another great spot if you are looking for a Hollywood-type vibe. Rainbow Bar and Grill is a classic if you want to reminisce about the glory of Hollywood’s former metal days. One thing to know about LA is that you find some of the most unexpected food in the most unlikely places. Don’t sleep on Jerk Stop at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Bundy. Harry has the best Jamaican food. But come hungry, he doesn’t like for you to leave food on your plate.

Beach trips to Malibu are a must for anyone visiting, but tell your guest(s) to bring a jacket. People are always fooled by the weather and microclimates in LA. Television and movies have everyone believing LA is warm and sunny year round. On a cloudy beach day in July, you will need a sweater. It’s very different from the humid summers on the east coast.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so fortunate to have a fierce, loyal group of women who lift me and are always there to encourage and support me, regardless of the situation. It has been so uplifting as a women owned business to see how other female entrepreneurs have stepped in to foster business connections and advice. I could not have done it without them.

A book that I think everyone should read is Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act. In the book, Rubin shows that creativity isn’t limited to the arts. It’s a way of engaging with life, how you cook a meal, solve a problem at work, raise a child, or start a conversation. Everyone creates, whether they realize it or not. In a fast, results-driven world, Rubin advocates for stillness, observation, and intuition. The book reminds us to listen more, rush less, and let ideas arrive rather than forcing them. This mindset is healing and grounding, regardless of profession. You can open to any page and find clarity, reassurance, or a nudge, making it perfect for revisiting during creative blocks or life transitions.
