We had the good fortune of connecting with Amrita Tripathi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amrita, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favourite quote is the Ancient Greek maxim ‘Know Thyself’ and that’s something that has stayed with me for decades – it kicks off my very first novel, published way back in 2010! What I love about this quote is that it crystallises so many different things into a cohesive strand… and that my ‘take’ or reply can change over time. It’s helpful to pare back and examine our own intent, motivation, and strengths and weaknesses in many areas of life and I do think examining some of these — bringing them out into the sunlight and thinking about them — can only prove helpful, both in professional and personal spheres of life.

(I have to say a second favourite is ‘This too shall pass’ — it can see you through both the not-great times and keep you grounded during the good times too.)

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve spent a long time trying to focus on different strands of identity — journalist and author, author and consultant, author and Founder and I’ve come to revel in the multi-hyphen-ness of it all. I think it all comes together with story-telling. I love sharing stories, both in the fiction and non-fiction space.
What am I most proud about? Finding my voice and putting my work out there. And just up and launching a start-up last year.

There are so many challenges in the multi-hyphenate existence, I find, but the biggest one is to work through your self-doubt. If you have something you’re passionate about, you need to keep at it — day-to-day even when it’s mundane work, and not just the days you get press coverage or shout-outs (which are lovely!)

I’d love the world to know about my new initiative Tap in Tribe (beta) for women and leadership. We’ve launched a membership-based network for women professionals and have some really insightful micro-courses and learning journeys, as well as a kick-ass group of mentors, advisors and peers, so I’d encourage folks to check this out. Especially inclusive, and especially global X local so much more to come in this space.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hundred percent would ensure we’re doing enough people watching, live music and soaking up that industry goodness with some touristy stuff — starting with the giant Hollywood sign! I remember checking out some incredible live jazz at the Seven Grand whiskey bar and would also ideally time the trip with some sort of awards season (last time we were there to cover the Grammys, so it may be hard to top that!)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It really takes a village. There are so many people who deserve a shout-out, from my partner to some incredible bosses I’ve had along the way — folks who saw potential from when I was a trainee journalist all the way to news anchor. Also my editors and publishers who agree that there are stories to be told and continue to commission books, in this age of questionable attention spans!

But I think above all, it’s my readers and audience that have given me the biggest boost. To find a community is very tough and I’ve been delighted to have a loyal readership and also a community with The Health Collective. I’m excited to kick off a new journey as well with Tap in Tribe for women & leadership and a huge shout to our early bird members and mentors for taking a leap with us (but more on that later!)
