We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Beavington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, how do you think about risk?
Having the willingness to take risks in life is essential. We wouldn’t get anywhere without risk taking.
As I started to lean into the idea of starting my own business, the feeling of how big of a risk it was terrifying. The overwhelming fear of; “What if I fail?” “What if I am criticized?” “What if I loose?” however, I knew that if I didn’t just jump and go for it, that the regret would haunt me forever.

I knew there was more for me, I knew I wanted to be my most authentic self, and I knew I had something to share with my community, and the world. I thought Fuck It – the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. Taking the risk paid off for me, I am so glad I went for it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Psychic Medium, I often forget that I am a small business owner. What I do is so personal that besides clients paying for my services, it doesn’t feel like a business to me. It’s a way of life.
I think about how entrepreneurs have to put themselves out there so much when deciding to build a business, these ideas are part of who they are. It’s amazing to me what can happen when you put out your ideas, pieces of yourself, into the world and receive success through that – it’s terrifying but incredibly rewarding.

This road for me was not easy but looking back, the bumps and fear along the way were essential to keep me on track. Keeps me humble.
The way to overcome challenges is having a realistic approach in how you deal with them, don’t panic, remove yourself of the situation and look at things objectively. I often think, when looking upon challenges that arise; “Where is there opportunity here?”, “How can I make this work out in my favour?’ and “What is this going to teach me?”. The lessons I have learnt can be wrapped up in understanding how critical it is to trust the process, make small adjustments as needed inch by inch.

I understand the underdog. I understand feeling lonely in life, or feeling like you have to hide parts of yourself for the sake of other people’s ability to accept you or not. I am my brand and my brand is me, once I got over the idea of putting myself out there, because I was so afraid of judgment from others, I quickly realized the immense support I received far out weighed the fear of rejection and pushed me forward to continue to open myself up to the world and show them who I really am.
I don’t like idea that Spirituality is fluffy, woo-woo, unattainable, or “out there” based on the behaviours of many groups and individuals that take a Spiritual lifestyle to the extreme. What sets me apart is that my approach to Spiritually is grounded and relatable. Being Spiritual is the easiest thing we can do besides breathing, it is not as outside of us as most people think. Helping people realize that is my purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love where I live, from Fort Langley, Vancouver and to Whistler – I am the queen of stay-cations and value spending time locally. To me, the relationship you have with food can shed like on your connection to yourself. To me, food is a Spiritual experience. Romanticizing food and holding value and gratitude for every bite.

If I had it my way, the perfect local day would include starting my day with candlelit stretch and flow yoga at Oxygen Yoga and then at Saba Cafe in Fort Langley for a breakfast sandwich and americano. I would go for a walk along the Fraser River and then do some shopping in Fort Langley.
I am a sucker for a facial, Skin Secrets in Fort Langley would be my next stop. I would also be incredibly enticed to hit up Little White House for more shopping and a cute little high tea.

After my morning in Fort Langley, I would head to Haven in Langley for a light lunch, then head to Vancouver! I would stay at the Westin Bayshore (my favourite hotel) because they always have something fun going on and their hospitality standards always make me feel like I can relax. The circle outdoor pool surrounded by the city and the mountains along the sea wall is magical. I would relax in the pool, hot tub, take a walk on along the sea wall, then get ready for dinner.

Dinner wise, there are too many options to pick from! La Mezcaleria on Commercial Dr, Robba da Matti in Gaston, Palate Kitchen on West Hastings, Blue Water Cafe in Yaletown or H Tasting Lounge at the Westin Bayshore for an outdoor dome experience. (to name a few.. I could go on)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my mentor, Debbie, who took me under her wing and gave me the strength to push through my fears. Debbie taught me to trust myself and listen to my inner voice, her lessons are priceless and forever changed me and my life path. I would also like to recognize my friends, family and clients that trusted me, encouraged me and continue to give me the love I need to move forward each and every day. Lots of people took a chance on me, lots of people put their hearts in my hands and trusted I would hold it safe. I am grateful every day for the people that were supportive at the beginning of my career journey and the relationships that have been built along the way.
