We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Muller Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my shop out of necessity. I had just moved up from LA, looked around for a job at a shop for about a week, and wasn’t really excited about working for another person I didn’t look up to. I had just had a few really bad experiences and just wanted to keep to myself and make art somewhere on my own terms. I found a cheap commercial spot and someone to share the rent with and it just all came together.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im always inspired by nature. I find it very meditative to study flowers and try to recreate their likeness in different media. I’m also inspired by fantasy, fairies, mermaids, kewpies, little frogs having adventures. I use my art to explore the way fantasy subjects make me feel, and to share those with others. Tattooing as a medium specifically also have a very empowering aspect to it. To permanently modify your body is to claim it as your own, to adorn it, to praise and worship it. It also allows us to show others how we feel on the inside.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s assume we’re talking about my hometown of the Bay Area. We can have brunch at lulu, grab tea at Polaris and asha, and pastries and pizza at arizmendi. I always bring friends to chez panisse for a nice dinner. Delage too. For lunch I like hawking bird, bird and buffalo. Gotta hit up the good Korean food, dang sung sa, Ohgane, gogi time. I like to take visitors to haight ashbury, Japanese tea garden, conservatory of flowers, and the MOMA. For drinks at the end of the day, we’ll stop by one of my favorite tiki bars, there are so many good ones in the bay. Kon tiki, smugglers cove, and the zombie village.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My tattoo teacher, Rio Degenaro, the Eddy family, my parents, and all the tattooers I’ve worked with who have shared knowledge with me <3
