We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Roko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s crazy, I don’t know how life works but me have a creative career was never an option, I just kept watching from a far, then like a lioness, I kept coming closer and closer. Then, I started getting involved. That’s how I’d describe my transition from the medical field to the social media realm. I was still a student in college, and I started posting funny videos to the world the world responded.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started as a person who’s super interested in comedy and then continued on to add a little music to it. Now I work as a creative director in Insomnia Records. Getting to it was always the slow and steady way, the constant learning of the inner workings of song creation and ideation while trying to keep the songs character was not a piece of cake. Thanks to my team who were there for me to get through the hard times of course, other than that what people don’t tell you is how fun and fulfilling the job is. One thing I’d want people to know, you can get a college degree in something that you thought you liked, but you can also completely change your career. You have the power. You have it don’t undermine that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh I did this to my travel buddy last month where I went to Italy. First you have to go to their cultural places and destinations. Finish that in one day. Then food. You have a full day planned around food where you just go to all the most popular places there. Third thing is what’s this countries favorite sport? Go watch a game I promise you seeing how passionate people are is so fun. Lastly, theatre, do they have plays, theaters or even cinemas. Watch it in their language with subtitles. Last thing meet strangers and talk to the people everywhere and any where you can, you’ll be amazed by how helpful and friendly they are.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In all honesty, I want to give a shout out to an artist and designer whose name is Sagr Al Yassin. He was the first guy who ever put a video of mine instagram and that’s how I got my first 100k followers. He put the video, he was respectful, he was laughing with me and not at me and to this day I never said thank you. So shout out and a big thank you to you Sagr!
