We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Schutte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always loved the “follow your bliss” concept from Joseph Campbell. I truly believe that when people are aligned with their soul’s work, the whole world can change.

My business started because of a desire to serve small businesses by giving them the right words to tell their story in a way that resonates. As a former journalist and brand marketer, I know how powerful stories can be for companies that want to have an impact. I’m incredibly passionate about helping women create businesses that allow them to live on their terms. We need more vibrant, joyful, radically authentic business owners to make an impact with their families, communities, and the world. We need good marketing to create a business that allows us more time and energy. Messaging and storytelling are the basis of good marketing.

After I had my first baby I didn’t feel aligned working a normal 9-5 anymore. I was craving more time with my son and I knew I could help people. What started off as a small spark has grown into a successful business that allows me the opportunity to serve amazing business owners and leaders while allowing for plenty of white space to be with my little ones.

What should our readers know about your business?
I created Hudson & Co., a boutique marketing agency that serves clients worldwide, to help high-achieving business owners leverage their stories through the right messaging.

Investing in your branding and brand story will change your business and the lives of the people you were meant to serve. Just imagine how your business would grow if people truly understood what you offered.

We’ve helped create million-dollar launches, have worked with international brands, and know a thing or two about using the power of story. We’re tired of seeing businesses waste money on marketing that doesn’t work, so we’ve dedicated our careers to ensuring your marketing investment actually grows your business.

I’ve loved creating a business that helps others shine while allowing me to enjoy my children’s little years in a way that feels so aligned with my soul’s desires. We specialize in strategy, messaging, coaching, and copywriting for billion-dollar companies and small businesses.

The success of my business hasn’t come down to a trick funnel or even being featured on the back of Donald Miller’s Marketing Made Simple book (although that was such a treat!). For me, it’s come down to my relationships. Don’t rush past building your network! It’s led me to run political campaigns and sub in for representatives during the legislative session, work with incredible clients worldwide, and help people find their stories and share them in a way that makes an impact. I love how creating a business can have a ripple effect through generations. If you have a dream, go for it. Everything is rigged in your favor.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite clients from England just visited for three days, so we spent our time alternating between business conversations and outdoor adventures. It’s always fun to play tourist in your own town. I’m based out of Southern Idaho, so I always like to show off Shoshone Falls and get visitors on a kayak. Our area has a very adventurous/outdoor vibe, and we’re blessed with plenty of sunshine. From Boise to Sun Valley to the sights of Twin Falls, there’s always something to do in Southern Idaho if you like being in nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

Community is such an essential part of my life! I couldn’t have created this business without the support of my family. My husband was so supportive when I brought up the idea of leaving my job so I could raise our baby on my terms. And speaking of that baby — my two little boys are my biggest inspiration. I want them to know they are worthy and deserving of creating the life they desire. My sweet mama has been the most dedicated cheerleader in my life by always encouraging my dreams and watching my kiddos. Bless the villages that help us raise our babies.

I’ve had fantastic business mentorship and community through StoryBrand, led by Donald Miller. Becoming a StoryBrand Certified Guide during my first year of business gave me support and a network of fellow writers and marketers. And lastly, a big shout-out to Jim Fortin and his team. Personal and spiritual development has been the secret sauce in expanding my business in ways I’ve never dreamed possible.
