We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Genesis Aviles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana Genesis, why did you pursue a creative career?
There are so many different ways to create art. I chose to create art and showcase my creativity through cakes. You can design something that is not only visually appealing, but entices your tastebuds as well. Being able to combine these two things is why I chose a career in the culinary industry. I am genuinely elated when people entrust me to create a special cake for their celebrations because in a way, they’re allowing me to be part of their day and if for that moment I made someone happy, that makes it all worthwhile.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart is that I connect with the customers and make sure that they are getting something unique and curated to their liking. Using quality ingredients and hand crafted entirely from scratch, each cake is created by me, not mass production, therefore, attention to detail is in every aspect of it from start to finish. I took the leap to start my own business in the middle of a pandemic and it definitely hasn’t been easy, but I’m proud of all the hard work I’ve accomplished so far. I was able to make a cake for a music video this year so although there’s been many challenges, theres also been lots of rewards and great opportunities along the way. I like to believe that my cakes bring joy to people especially now during these stressful times. I take pride in each and every custom cake I craft from scratch. They’re all unique and made with lots of love!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love the outdoors and being out in nature. We would pick up food & drinks from all the favorite local spots and head up to the mountains for a picnic! First stop would be at Found Coffee, my favorite coffee shop in the Eagle Rock area. Next stop would be Milkfarm, also in Eagle Rock because we all need amazing cheese in our lives! We’d grab our picnic lunch from Amara Kitchen in Highland Park. If you haven’t tried their cookies yet, you’re surely missing out! We’d also have to make a trip to the beach, relax and get some fresh air. The sound of waves is so therapeutic and we can all use some of Mother Nature’s beautiful sounds right now.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to dedicate this shoutout to my husband! He supports my goals & dreams 100% and always has my back. From last minute store runs when I forget some cake ingredients to helping me pack up cakes, he does it all! We also started a small leather goods business about a year ago. It began with me wanting him to make me a small leather keychain and he just began to make wallets too. We called it Wildflower Leather Co, of course! He is so talented and deserves his amazing work to be known and showcased.
