We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ana, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued it simply for the love of the game, I wrote some songs and I wanted to see them become reality. The urge to write music is always going to be there for me, so why not create an outlet for it? I’ve also grown to really love the camaraderie me and my band mates have developed. It’s made me become a better musician in every aspect and I love how we can come together to create music and an aesthetic for the band.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Future Problems is an indie rock band created by me, Ana Leon, and Victor Beber. David Morales joined our line up about a year after our start, and as of today the band consists of us three. In the band I am the vocalist/guitarist, Victor is the bassist/keyboardist, and David is the drummer. Creating Future Problems and growing it into what it is today has been effortless in the sense that we always stick to our guiding compass, which is to just make music you love and are proud of. Of course that comes with its own challenges, like the money you spend on gear, recording sessions, and studio time. Or like finding the time to spend nurturing your artistic project while still keeping up with real life. Coordinating everyone’s schedules to find pockets of time to get together. There’s not a straightforward path to overcoming the challenges, since they will always be there no matter the level you are at. For us, what works the best is just keeping an open line of communication and working together as a team when it comes to decisions about playing shows, recording music, rehearsal, and endeavors the band may want to spend money on. What we wish the takeaway to be is that we are an indie band that appreciates good music and strives to make good music that resonates with the listener.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my absolute favorite spots to eat in LA is The Shrimp Lover on Hollywood Blvd. I would recommend that place anytime. The Low Boy in Echo Park is a cool bar to sit and talk, and their drinks are super nice. Also can’t forget about Hae Jang Chon, which is probably the most delicious KBBQ I’ve ever had in Southern California. Other than that, I can recommend some cool venues we have played at, where you will always catch a great show: 33rd Hill, Daddy Diamonds, and The Hotel Cafe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hannah Hyatt who has shot a great deal of our photos and has created a music video for us. Armin Fard who produced our latest single release, “Slip”. Future Problems wouldn’t have the sound and look we do without these two incredible artists. They help to amplify the hard work the band already puts into this project and they are brilliant creatives in their own right.
