Meet Ana Oncina | Comic artist & Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Oncina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
To be a constant person, who enjoys her work and who lets herself be carried away by the process of evolution and learning. I try not to compare myself with other artists and underestimate my work. Through experience I have also learned how important it is to set a schedule and stick to it. Take advantage of your free time and don’t feel guilty for not being a productive person all the time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would define myself as a comic author and an enterprising girl who has a small business with her products and illustrations.
I have published several comics: the four volumes of Croqueta y Empanadilla which have been translated to different countries like USA, France and Italy. Los f*cking 30 or Just Friends. I have also self-published some books like Un Paseo por Corea y Japón, a travelogue I made in 2017. I’m currently working on new comics and I also publish every 15 days on my Patreon page in English and Spanish.
In my online store I sell my products and illustrations and I also usually go to self-publishing fairs where I sell them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live further away from the city, in a coastal area, so I would take him to an area of small, quiet beaches to do paddle surf and snorkel. I would also take her to my favorite comic book stores, one of them is Pynchon & Co, it’s a wine shop and we could have a wine in the beautiful terrace they have. For lunch we would go to the central market, where there are delicious food stalls and we would go to the square next to it to eat and sunbathe.
Another day we could also eat a paella near the beach, there are very good and tasty places. Finally, we could go out to some pubs that I like a lot.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I was a teenager and I spent the day drawing comics I barely had female references, when I got to college and social networks began to be fashionable I began to see that other women began to publish their comics and that gave me strength to encourage me with mine and try to get a publisher to publish them.
So undoubtedly my references and those who unknowingly gave me strength to believe in me, were great authors like Bea Tormo or Agustina Guerrero.
