We had the good fortune of connecting with Anabel Inigo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anabel, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Miami, Florida. More specifically, the Hialeah area – and I feel like the culture in Hialeah is so specific to Cuban Miami culture that it made me miss that version of myself when I moved away. Leaving the place you called home for most of your life feels so freeing until you realize that half of your identity is based on places and experiences that can only be had in those neighborhoods back home. So once I left, I decided the best way to stay authentic and feel like the best version of myself was to always keep my Miami-ness alive.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create art to protect the younger version of me that didn’t see herself and her experiences. I create art for girls, by girls, with girls, and I have a community around me that supports the same ideals as me. Think Legally Blonde and High School Musical with extra glitter. I have projects that I’m developing that keep that brand alive that I’m super excited to share with the world when they’re ready!

After graduating from USC and working at a few jobs that didn’t fulfill my creative spirit the way that I wanted to, finding a job with Brittany was one of the best things for me. I actually found the job with Brittany by meeting someone at an event I attended through Twitter! Crazy circumstances came into play, but when I found a happy place to land, I knew I found it, and I’m happy to be here every day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think the best way to do a visit to LA is to break it into its areas. You’ve gotta do a Santa Monica day where you go out to the pier, have breakfast at Layla’s Bagels, grab a drink somewhere near the beach and after a lot of walking, have dinner at Ospi.

In Los Feliz/Echo Park, make sure you do the swans at Echo Park, have a cute picnic at the park, and finish off your day with dinner at Spoon then go dancing at Los Globos!

Another thing to do is go on Eventbrite and check out whatever is in the area. I have found some amazing pop-up events, comedy shows and farmers markets just by trusting my gut and taking the leap. Los Angeles is a big place with a lot of different people so sometimes just let LA decide for you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am currently employed by one of the most amazing women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in the business. Her name is Brittany Miller, and watching someone be near the top of their career while still juggling a family, friendship, and her own life is one of the most remarkable experiences. I am watered by the relationship I have with her every day. She has become my mentor and my friend and my role-model!

Also, I want to give a huge shout-out to my producers turned best friends Rachel Allen and Alissa Nguyen. As I’ve continued to make steps in my career as a writer and director I have been so loved and supported in too many ways to count. So I have to give them a huge shout-out for being wonderful, beautiful fabulous women in my life.
