We had the good fortune of connecting with Anasa Greaves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
About Unisa Eurani:
A fusion between streetwear and contemporary fashion, Unisa Eurani is a ready to wear clothing line that consists of unisex basics, incorporating tailoring and athleisure with vibrant pops of color. I get alot of inspiration from streetwear and classic tailoring. As a black woman, my culture and style plays a major role in developing my brand. Unisa Eurani is an eclectic mix of my design aesthetic and my vision.
Hi Anasa, What do you think about risk?
Oh risk!!! Let’s just say if I didn’t take any risk, Unisa Eurani wouldn’t exist! I think when you’re an entrepreneur, you have to be courageous and take risks. It’s essential and there’s no getting around it. Ultimately, you don’t know the outcome, but with faith, determination and a strong work ethic, I truly believe you can conquer it all. The positive side to taking risks is the sense of freedom and fulfillment you get once the end goal is attained. Without taking risks, one is often left wondering “what if?” I think that’s worse than the fear leading up to the risk itself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Running a clothing brand keeps me extremely busy. I’m constantly sewing, drafting patterns, producing content, looking for the right manufacturers, trying to find reliable people to work with, and monitoring sales. So I’m ALWAYS busy, but I know what I want and I’m willing to go the distance to accomplish it.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve faced several obstacles along the way, but I try not to let that stop me. I’m on a mission!!! So whether I take a moment to cry or blow off some steam, I embrace it and keep pushing forward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m sooooooo laid back and pretty boring lol. But here goes, I would start out with brunch at Grand lux because I’m absolutely obsessed with their pancakes! So, it’s only natural that MY friend would be obsessed with pancakes as well, LOL. Next on the list would be a nice little drive out to dumbo, walk around a bit and catch some sun and just relax-something I barely get to do nowadays. The days to follow would consist of rollerskating, a few museum trips checking out some exhibitions like Kusama, and KAWS, then a few small road-trips, where we pick up a few friends along the way and catch up via picnics and lounging around. I love the sun and I love my friends. This pandemic has truly made me realize not to take anything for granted, so the simple interactions that came so easily and a bit unappreciated before, I value greatly now.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today without the support of my family especially, my mother. She’s been my biggest cheerleader since day one and continues to support my brand, Unisa Eurani. Being a business owner during a pandemic is tough. Like several business owners, I had to pivot and adjust to the times, and even though it’s been a rocky road, I’m definitely grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and to still be afloat. Social media is a major marketing platform, but never underestimate word of mouth and my family won’t hesitate to share my brand, Unisa Eurani with anyone they come across.
