We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasia Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anastasia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a young girl I was very shy and soft spoken. No one could ever hear me. My sketchbook felt like the one place I could be heard. I carry that with me to this day. Though I have learned to express and communicate vocally, I still find that creating art is when I feel most like myself. Most seen and most heard. Art can be extravagant, simple, elegant, seductive, detailed or colorful. Art can be painting, singing, dancing, writing…I think what I love most is, it that it can be whatever you want it to be. No matter what you create, if it comes from within, it is beauty in its purest form. For me, my paintbrush is that pure form of self expression. And what is life if not to spend each day doing what makes you happy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I haven’t gotten even a fraction of the way to where I would like to get professionally as an artist. But I find myself no longer afraid or intimidated of getting there. I think that was the biggest challenge and lesson for me. I have painted all of my life. But was so afraid to show anyone and was always comparing myself to other great artists. Always trying to be a certain type of artist/painter. It wasn’t until last year I started just painting whatever I like and stopped trying to be something I’m not. I give so much credit to my boyfriend for that. He is constantly encouraging and a huge supporter of anything I do. Also a living breathing muse of mine.

My brand is passion because what is art without passion. And that goes hand in hand with my story. I didn’t come from much and was extremely sheltered. But I always had passion. And that is what drove me to start a fresh chapter with nothing but a dream of living the artists life in a warm sunny place filled with creative people and flowers everywhere.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I would take them is to a hidden beach in Malibu! I don’t care how overrated it is there. I find so much magic in smelling the ocean and lying in the sand with warm sand on my toes. Then we would go to the Butchers Daughter in Santa Monica for their vegan white pizza and a glass of white wine. We’d find a live show somewhere and dance the night away. The most interesting and exciting people are absolutely everyone that hangs out at the Rainbow on Sunset, and I think going to see live bands is the most fun thing to do in LA! The Viper Room, Dirty Monday’s and again the Rainbow have some of the best shows.
