Meet Anastasiia Yanovych

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasiia Yanovych and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anastasiia, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be proof that you can live big without leaving a mess behind. We’re all just passing through this planet, and it’s embarrassing how many people treat it like a hotel room they trash before checkout. I want the next generation and the nature they inherit to be better, not worse, because I was here.
And as an artist, I want my work to still have teeth decades later. Not polite museum pieces, but things that stop someone mid-scroll or mid-stride and make them feel something real – beauty, lust for life, even a little discomfort. If I can make people fall in love with this imperfect world all over again, then I’ve done my job.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is always about inner freedom. It’s that feeling when you take a deep breath in… and a long, slow breath out. No overthinking – just drawing in a flow state. I create with emotions, not fear, so I’m not afraid of splashes, dabs, or power lines. My subjects are often people—their movements, gestures, and the outfits they choose to express themselves. I love catching beauty like a quick glimpse: capturing the essence and leaving just enough for a pleasant aftertaste.
What excites me most is when brands, designers and talented creators like Schiaparelli, Marchesa, Karlie Kloss connect with my work. I started young – winning a national competition for digital illustration as a teenager. Since then, my style has evolved, but my favorite tools remain my iPad and Apple Pencil. My path has been classic – art school, design lyceum, university of art, and a career in commercial advertising – but my personal work began as a way to tune out the noise. After work or on weekends, I’d open my iPad and cover the canvas with whatever I was feeling. I’ve learned I feel much better creating than consuming.
Hard times remind me that nations need art and beauty to stay resilient. I’m where I am because I kept going, no matter the obstacles. I’ve learned to stay open, generous, and unafraid to give my work to the world – and that’s the best place to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Clear your head at Santa Monica Airport watching planes roll in.
Cruise a bike through Venice neighborhoods – just vibes.
Wrap it all up with a chess game at Gnarwhal Cafe, win or lose, it’s still a good day.
Sink into pure beach bliss at El Pescador State Beach.
Reward yourself with garlic mashed potatoes (and maybe a beer) at Malibu Brewing Company.
Wander through the Marciano Art Foundation and let the art mess with your mind in the best way.
Catch the Saturday Live Concert at Recreation Cafe – let the music do its thing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s always about people. I’m lucky to have an inner circle that knows exactly what it means to be a Family – with a capital F. They’re the ones who show up when it’s hard, tell me the truth when it’s uncomfortable, and celebrate like crazy when it’s good. And then there are the stories about my ancestors – people who faced bigger challenges than I’ll probably ever know and still found a way forward. That grit runs in the blood. So my shoutout – it’s to one and only family, in every detail.
