We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I think, honestly, every career is or can be creative. For me, being creative has always been a gift that fuels my life and artistry. Growing up, I went to a youth performing arts high school as a dancer. Then I fell into acting and finally music. But, basically I was born an artist and I always knew it. Pursuing a music career has been a great joy and it has paid off in ways that I didn’t expect. I never expected to do so well singing inspirational songs in spiritual venues. So, to answer your question, the arts chose me and I said yes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have written all kinds of music. Lately, I’m really inspired by the Black Lives Matter song that my husband Billy Shank and I have written. I feel like every day there is another push for artists to stand up and speak out. I am pro love, acceptance and equality. I feel like my road has not been easy but I always rise to the challenge. In the past, it was financial challenges and how to record and release music on a slim budget. Recently, the challenge has had to do with gigs changing their pay rate due to COVID 19. I’m grateful that so many places have found a way to still have live music-on-line! In the end, it’s always worth it though, following your heart. I’m happy to be on this beautiful journey. One of the ways I overcome challenges is to keep my mind focused on gratitude and what could go right instead of wrong. I keep stepping out on faith and trust. It gets easier as you practice it….

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really love going to beaches and doing walking meditations. I might go to Crystal Cove cabins in Newport Beach. There are plenty of cute and fun restaurants down there too! I also love driving out PCH to Malibu and visiting some of those restaurants along the way (like Moon Shadow). Also, the Comedy and Magic club in Hermosa Beach is fun!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Agape International Spiritual Center has been so amazing for me. They got me started in singing inspirational spiritual songs versus the painful love songs I had been recording. They have always been supportive and a huge inspiration in my life. Big shout out to Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith who founded the organization!!!

I’d also like to give a shout-out to my husband Billy. He’s very supportive. He’s also a great help with the writing and the live shows. ❤
