Hi Andrea, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Transitioning away from the film industry, I felt a strong desire to embark on a new career where I could make a difference in people’s lives. Both of my parents had owned businesses, so the idea of becoming an entrepreneur seemed like a natural fit. However, I knew that the modern entrepreneurial landscape came with its own set of challenges, especially the need for a solid social media presence. While I wasn’t particularly excited about this aspect, I recognized its importance in today’s world and embraced it as a necessary step for growth.

Of course, being your own boss offers some enticing advantages, such as the flexibility to set your own working hours, the ability to work from anywhere, and the freedom to decide how far you want to take your business. But it’s not without its significant hurdles. Starting out, you find yourself putting in long hours and personally investing in your brand, which can make it hard not to take criticism personally.

Yet, despite the ups and downs, I firmly believe that if you have the resilience to push through the tough days, starting your own business is absolutely worthwhile. It grants you a unique voice within your industry, and how you choose to use that voice can truly impact others in a meaningful way.

When I initially entered the matchmaking industry, I brought my coaching skills to the table, seamlessly blending the art of coaching with the practice of connecting clients with their ideal partners. Fortunately, I was fortunate enough to possess honed coaching abilities from the start, even before the trend of incorporating coaching into matchmaking programs became widespread among matchmakers.

In order to stand out from my peers in the matchmaking field, I realized the importance of finding a niche. While some matchmakers focus solely on working with either men or women, others specialize in the LGBTQ community or offer global services. I, on the other hand, wanted to cater to anyone seeking their perfect partner. This meant I needed a unique approach that would set me apart.

And so, all of my clients embark on blind dates. Yes, you heard that right – no opportunity to see what their date looks like beforehand. I loved this concept as it provided a refreshing departure from the realm of dating apps. By curating high-quality matches for my clients and imbuing each date with an element of surprise, I aimed to recreate that sense of excitement that often accompanies traditional dating.

Every date is carefully designed to be enjoyable and relaxed. There’s an engaging activity that allows the couple to spend time together, getting to know each other through a shared experience. Following the activity, they proceed to a cozy setting for drinks or a meal, where they can give each other their undivided attention. If conversation lulls, they can always reminisce about the enjoyable moments they shared during the activity.

Rarely do I receive feedback from clients that their match was a complete miss. More often than not, even if it doesn’t result in a love connection, they appreciate the time spent together and have a genuinely good time getting to know one another.
