We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
well i started in my freshman year selling Tortas and lemon pies, it was back in January 26th 2023, I would sell the Tortas for $5 with chips included and the lemon pies for $6 and it started good, at first I used my personal instagram but there’s one time someone told me “Andrea why won’t you do ur own instagram for your business?” And I said to my self oh yeah why no? So then after school I went to my school straight up and I remember it was 4:00 pm and I made the instagram I wasn’t sure what name to put so I first put “Postres mala influencia “but then I realized that it didn’t go with me so I decided to change it to a better name. The name has 2 story’s on why it’s called “Delicias Durango”. Delicias came because that’s what I sell , and Durango came because I was born in Durango Durango mx so that’s why I came with the name of my business, for my logo it toke me awhile to find one I liked and at first it was a cake with it didn’t convince me, so I asked my self “why don’t I use the mascot from Durango with its a scorpion so I used it as my logo, I continued selling Tortas and pies but there’s was one time one of my friend asked me if i selled “ Chamoy Gummys her name is MelIssa, she asked me “hey Andrea do you do peach rings with chamoy and skittles ?” And I was in shock when she asked me for some reason so I said yeah I do, but I didn’t have supplies or anything, I remember that day my Tio gave me $25 and I remembered I ordered chamoy from one of my tios friends because she selled thick chamoy , and it was expensive it was $12 so I decided to learned how to make chamoy so I did it and it came out very good.I remember that the first gummy’s I got were from Walmart after I sold out and got a good amount of money I went to LA and got good supplies so I started selling more and more in school I would sell to my teachers, friends and family. I remember there’s was time I couldn’t sell since it was vacation so I couldn’t sell at all so my business stoped for 2 weeks and I couldn’t get money with I was scared and stressed out because I pay my own phone bill so I decided to spend the last $50 in a pop up with sadly it didn’t go well and I did get sad but it happens sometimes it goes well and sometimes it doesn’t. So I haven’t do pop ups since there because I’m scared I get a lot of stuff and I don’t sell them. All the struggle I had all the ups and down it made me come strong and look at me now doing an interview with I always dreamed about, selling more and getting more recognized by people. If I have something to say to everyone it would be “don’t be scared to chase your dreams, go for it”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business was created with the intent to create new flavors of chamoy, and other deserts. I love seeing people enjoy my creations and ask for more! I am most proud of my chamoy gummys , which have the ability to awaken anyones sweet tooth. I admit it has not been an easy journey, but my customer make it worth it. I overcome challenges by thinking them through and slowing down when necessary. As cliche as it sounds, the biggest lesson I have faced is to never give up! I am sophmore in high school striving to go to college in the near future. I am excited how this journey will flourish into a career and see my growth. I believe I am persistent and smart enough to follow both my passions of teaching and cooking . As of today, I believe it is my passion of making candys , that has made me who I am today.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whittier is a diverse and fun city where it is full of small shops and entertainment. A mix of everything could be located at Uptown Flee, a small shop pop up where you can enjoy the most fabulous tacos and thrift jackets and jews! Whittier is home to many small shops and what better way to spend your weekend than to shop small and support others. I would next spend evening in uptown Whittier by enjoying a movie and snacks!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my family for the love and encouragement of me starting my own business. Without them I would not have the courage to take on challenges and risk that I have taken in the past year. also i would like to thank my friends for supporting me on everything for giving me challenges to try new stuff. and i’m also thankful for god, because god did this possible
