We had the good fortune of connecting with Andres Aparicio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andres, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Creating a strict schedule for yourself at the beginning of the year is crucial. Every year I come up with a plan for the entire year on what exactly it is I want to achieve. It usually looks like, Touring in the Spring, shows in the summer, release music in the fall, and tour again in the fall. If I can achieve those basic duties I feel like I’m on the right track on my career to continue to grow and potentially get bigger tour oppurtunities. All that “free” time that I didn’t previously mention is spent writing and recording music so I can alsways have a new “product on deck” to release. The music promotes the tours and the tours promote the music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I really like to listen to Vince Guaraldi and jazz artists like that, and I feel like that genre of music really shows in my songwriting. In the scene that I cooperate in, most of the bands are influenced by The Mars Volta, so it’s cool being the only artist in my scene that sounds like charlie brown music versus just blatantly influenced by the band, The Mars Volta.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OOOOHH. A lot of my friends that didn’t grow up in Bakersfield, CA(Like I did) actually really love it here! Because I take them to a bunch of really fun spots and we hang out with a bunch of characters(that I call friends), they end up having memorable experiences. So first and foremost, Bakersfield has a 10/10 Brewery called Lengthwise(their beers are found in bevmo’s across the country) and we enjoy their really delicious beer and food. Then I would drive them about 40 minutes into the mountains a little north into a town called, Kernville where there’s water-rafting, hiking, and other small-town activity. Ultimately one of my favorite Pizza Joints in Bakersfield, a Central California staple, is called Me-N-Eds and my friends and I absolutely love their food and beer. So I guess I can offer a day of food, drinks, and activity that I am confident will tucker you out in the best way possible lol.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a lot of credit to my mom and dad(Elizabeth and Armando) of course for their unending support. BUT. BUT. I have to give most of my props to a dude named Donovan Melero. He is not only the singer of the band Hail the Sun, But he is also a booking agent and mentor in the scene that I participate in. He has booked my shows for years and put me in positions that I otherwise couldn’t put myself in. So SHOUTS OUT Donovan Melero and Hail the Sun:) He spends countless hours at his desk booking shows for the artists and bands he believes in, as well as curates festivals for all these bands to perform together in bigger venues. The dude cares about the scene.
