We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Chang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because it was the only thing that I was drawn to. I’ve known that I wanted to be an artist since I was a child and I have never changed my goals since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Due to the nature of my career goals, it has definitely not been easy to get where I am. I believe that I’ve been able to pursue my goals through hard work and dedication. What sets me apart from others is that I have been willing to put in the time and work to achieve my goals despite any setbacks or obstacles along the way. Although I have had to take several side jobs to support myself financially, I am happy to put in the extra time so that I could work in my desired field of creating concept art. A lesson that I learned along the way is that you definitely need to make connections in order to get into the industry, something I am still working on. I would like the world to know that I am someone who will always say yes and I am willing to put in the work to achieve the goals I want.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge coffee fanatic, so I would center the week around visiting some of my favorite cafe’s such as Grid Coffee in Diamond Bar, Fika Fika in Arcadia, or Time Out Cafe in Koreatown! Los Angeles is such a hotspot for food where you can experience so many different cultures, so I would take them to get Dollar Hits, a Filipino skewer restaurant, as well as Sun Nong Dan, a korean restaurant famous for their galbijjim, among so many other amazing options. In terms of sightseeing, I love taking my friends to the Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, or Little Tokyo, and especially taking them to the SGV to try out all the different boba shops.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out the Concept Art Association for providing a space where I could meet fellow artists pursuing the same path as me! They have also been so instrumental in allowing me to seek mentorships from industry professionals.
