We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Fiscella and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I owned nightclubs in New York City. I was also an actor and after 911 I made the decision to move to Los Angeles. When I got settled in LA, I was missing a piece of NYC and I knew I wanted to open a bar. I came up in the Hip Hop era and there are alot of people in LA with New York roots, So I believed that a small East Coast feel Hip Hop bar would do well. I wanted it to be a place for all of my friends to hang and create a family type vibe not just for all of the East Coaster’s in LA, but also for the Fairfax Distict neighborhood. At the time one of my best friends, Chris Huvane, also loved this idea as he was originally from the Bronx and had a deep love for Hip Hop as well. So The Dime was born in 2003. We have had many years of great times, memories, music, launched DJ careers, launched marriages & families lol, etc. & became a staple of the neighborhood. In 2024 I brought the mother of my children, Lucy Treadway, into the business to help grow the brand as we are opening additional locations. And After 21 years of being open, we are so very grateful and honored to have been inducted into the Legacy Businesses of Los Angeles. We hope to create great times and memories for generations to come.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So I came up in a unique time of pop culture. I didn’t realize it at the time, but looking back it is like, Wow. I started owning underground Hip Hop nightclubs in NYC in the 90’s and came up alongside guys like Mark Ronson, Tao Group Founders, my boy actor Dash Mijok etc. Ronson used to come down and DJ at my bar Rebar. I ended up turning Rebar into a spot called Suite 16. Suite 16 was a game changer for all of us. I hired Jason Strauss & Noah Tepperberg as the promoters and we just blew it out of the water. Jason & Noah went on to found the global brand Tao Group. Back in Suite 16 Days, it was Paris Hilton, Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake, every major star on the scene came through Suite 16 in NY. And right at the same time Papparazzi became huge and would film these stars coming out of our bar every night. So it felt like overnight it all exploded and we were everywhere. A TV series was created just to show this type of nightlife footage of celebrities, it was called Celebrities Unsensored on the E!Network. You have to remember that in these days there was no cell phones. Hip Hop music had become main stream and people came out every night to dance their a&$es off for hours. It was fun. It was free. And it makes me these young kids today will never know this type of fun and freedom because of cell phones. After I moved to LA and opened The Dime, We opened 2 more nightclubs, Winston & Crown Bar. Both were papparazzi havens with again major stars coming in and out every night. That era was a special time and it launched many major careers that have had huge unfluence in pop culture today, like Mark Ronson, the late DJ AM, etc etc and dare I say the Kardashian sisters lol. Yeah they used to come through with Paris. It was a wild, fun time. Today only The Dime is still standing. Representing a small piece of my career that I am super proud of and so very grateful. We still sometimes get Dave Chappelle, Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae, D Nice, Leo DiCaprio, etc. The Dime is still hanging on. We are grateful and we are now officially Angeleno’s after 2 decades lol. We love LA and we love being a part of the historic Fairfax District where Brands like Supreme & The Hundreds came up. We love the Fairfax community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lil Doms in Los Feliz, Dan Tana’s, Craigs, Casa Vega in the Valley, Nobu in Malibu, Monty’s Steakhouse in Woodland Hills, & a secret spot that is so delicious is in Westlake Village it’s called Made in Italy. For activities of course Hiking, Runyan Canyon is an LA staple and it’s cool for visitors because you can see Hollywood Sign. Go skate boarding at Venice Skate park, roller skating, bike riding, or people watching along Santa Monica down to Venice Boardwalk, Beach it up, so many things to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow. So many. I think to me, there are 2 people who have consistently shown up for me, maybe when I didn’t deserve it, they stayed by my side and helped me to be the best, healthiest version of myself. Sometimes by force haha but always out of love, and always looking out for what was best for me and my kids. I have to shout out the mother of my kids Lucy Treadway, she has helped change my life and has given me everything really. And the 2nd person is my late best friend, Chris Huvane. Without these two people coming into my life, I really don’t know where I would be today.
