We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew McDanniel Robles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Becoming a fulltime father for 2 years kind of made me create a balance. She became more of a priority than the business. And as time went by it made me focus on big projects and not small budget gigs it taught me to say no to a lot of customers that really didn’t have a budget and wanted the whole movie set for a price of new shoes. I had to step back and think will this job do anything to benefit me other than monetary wise and is it worth me taking my baby out of daycare school for at the end of the day I choose the latter.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work as a director and photographer I consider myself old school and I thank gene kelly, Michael Jackson & Charlie Chaplin for mixing music and movies into one and I strive my best to make that in almost every music video I do I make it a point to to clients that want a music video done that I don’t do the trending style right now that has so many unnecessary effects cause it make the video cheap and messy and Chaplin he was able to strike emotions without audio and a lot of times that’s a big goal for me. I guess it’s kind of hard cause what’s trending is big so I can loose some clients while saying no sometime and that’s ok cause it’s just me staying true to myself and style of directing and I live by the saying classics never die but trend always come to an end. Always sooner that later.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly I’m a huge introvert I don’t really go out much at all being a full time father hasn’t really changed that. I guess I will say with out a doubt that being home with my friends and family and swimming and having a good brisket smoke out would be my favorite place and event to do or invite anyone to enjoy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would honestly love to thank my daughter now and when she’s older she’s what keeps me going everyday. And I would love to thank the Lumix team it’s a great family and very inspiring and beyond a great support group. Lumix crew !!
