Meet Andrew Medeiros | CEO of Apotho Therapeutics, Actor, & Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Medeiros and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Seekonk, Massachusetts. Owning a small business in Massachusetts, means a lot to me. Hard work has always been one of the shared core values of New England and I am proud to be from here. My parents were small business owners and executives my whole life. My siblings and I were fortunate enough to learn by observation on how to carry ourselves in the professional work environments that we are currently pursuing, through our parents. All my siblings are intelligent, successful, leaders; and I feel fortunate and privileged to have them in my life. My parents were always teaching us how to be good leaders, the skills necessary to be a good leader. I credit our upbringing and my parents life lessons, for a lot of my professional success today with our business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There’s two sides of me professionally. The Business Owner and The Artist. I’ve been trudging along through the acting industry for a little over 8 years now. It’s a grind to say the least. More recently, about the last 3 years, I’ve started to really dive head first into screen & playwriting.
Being an artist isn’t something I just want to do, it’s something I have to do. It’s a piece of who I am. There isn’t anything that speaks to my soul more than performing on a stage, or on screen. When acting, I truly feel as though it is what I was put on this Earth to do. It’s exactly where I should be, and what I should be doing. I feel lucky to have found a passion that I feel so deeply connected to.
That’s why I will never stop pursuing it. Even after years of rejection. That’s part of the journey. Teddy Roosevelt once said “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty.” That’s what it takes to make it as an actor, as a writer, as an artist, and as a creative. Rejection is inevitable, it’s how you handle rejection, how you push through it, that leads you on the path to success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I can’t deny that I am a homer. I love cities like Providence, and Boston. If my friend was coming in from out of town we would definitely head to Providence for the weekend, especially in the summer.
The bar and restaurant scene in Providence has improved drastically in my life time. For dinner and drinks I would recommend starting at a restaurant like Bayberry Garden or Circe if you’re looking for a nice sit down dinner.
If you want to just get some awesome food for a cool, chill vibe I’d recommend, Troop, Kin Southern Kitchen, Tortilla Flats, or Aguardente.
Rooftop spots like Rooftop on G, and Mare are really great in the summer as well.
Finally my top 5 bars in Providence ranked in no particular order are Tiny Bar, 345 by Plant City (speak easy), The Eddy, The Avery, and Clementine’s Cocktail Bar. Honorable mentions Courtland Club,
Nick-A-Nees (great dive), and the classic Hot Club.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Brittany is incredible. She’s the love of my life. Brittany has always supported me with everything that I do. I do own a business but I also continue to pursue my acting dreams that I’ve had since the day she met me 13 years ago. She supports my dreams, my goals, and loves me for who I am. She’s and incredible thoughtful person and I’m lucky to have her.
I want to thank my brother Mathew for running this business with me. I love and respect all my siblings, however, I think Mat and I are a perfect balance professional to make our business run the way it does. I can’t thank him enough for going on this journey with me and being one my best friends through the process.
My parents have been a guiding light throughout my life. I don’t know where I’d be without them. They have sacrificed and given so much to me and my siblings. At the core they made sure that above all us we knew being a good person comes first in life. It’s an honor to be their son.
Finally I want to thank my older siblings, Lauren and Eddie. They paved the way for me and my brother Mat to get to where we are today. I couldn’t have asked for two more wonderful people to have been able to look up to my whole life. They’re two of my heroes.
