Meet Andrey Aripez | Standup comedian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrey Aripez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrey, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk taking is essential in life and in standup. In life if you’re not taking any risk you won’t see any reward. You have to be willing to risk something to gain something. Similarly in comedy you have to be willing to take risks in the jokes you tell, sometimes you risk bombing a set for a new joke, sometimes you risk an edgy joke to find the gold in it but I believe it’s necessary. Without risk there is no growth. You can’t where you’re comfortable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d say my art is just trying to make people laugh. What’d I’d say that sets me apart from other comics is just me. Most of the time the art of standup is based in being yourself and your most authentic self vulnerability and honesty translates on stage. Being myself is the way I’ve gotten this far in comedy, that meaning me being curious and always asking questions and asking for advice and not being afraid to be told no or being in an uncomfortable position. Being curious being authentic and being welcoming to that uncomfortable feeling will get you far.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has the best Mexican food in the country. (I am biased but this is fact) for breakfast I love chilaquiles and Don chilaquiles in Koreatown has some of the best. After that I’d probably want to show off the beaches and take a drive down PCH. Of course you have to catch a dodger game ( pre game and take snacks ). Then you have to get tacos after a dodger game and almost every taquero in LA is fire but I’ll always go to King taco after a game it’s just nostalgic ( has to be the one off Atlantic Blvd ). To end the night drinks and a show are a must at The Comedy Store.
