Meet Andriana Garbiso | Actor, Stunt Woman and Screenwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andriana Garbiso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andriana, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Self-Assuredness is the root strength behind my personal success. Everything I’ve experienced in life, has prepared me for a career in film. At various times throughout our lives, we have all had the opportunity to be the hero, play a victim or stand at the sidelines as the audiance. Some will call on faith for the power to guide them, others will flail trying to discover who they are and how others see them, but the rarest breed are students of life, reciprocating opportunities while blazing an unwaivering path.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There is no being on earth who can undermine my mind. I am unapologetic about who I am, what I want in life, and my own worst enemy is the occasional self-doubt that tries to creep in. Filmmaking is not for the meek. It is unfortunate that many people never hear their calling. Mine didn’t come until after my 40th birthday. I have no regrets about getting a later start, because I honestly feel that I needed to grow up, to be able to accept the complexities of this lifestyle. You hear horror stories about child actors that spiral into drugs or alcoholism. I believe a big part of that at any age, is not knowing who you are or not believing in your own worth. I chose to write inspiring underdog stories because there are no silver spoons on my family tree. Both of my parents were born into large families with modest means. They are Spanish, Mexican and Indigenous decent, born in the United States. To honor them and our ancestors…. I will continue to write content that speaks to those who feel unseen or unheard. There ARE Superheroes of all colors, and we all deserve to see someone who represents us on screen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think it would be fun to rent an AirBnb in Topanga Canyon for the week and tke my friend to a few favorite restraunts after hiking or hanging at the beach. Reel Inn Malibu is a quick jaunt from Topanga but i’d pick a sandier, less rocky beach area to hang out at. My favorite sit down Mexican Restaruant is actually Oaxacan style. Guelaguetza knows food, customer service and fun. The seafood soup is my go to and the live miusic is always on point. Unfortunately, some of my other favorites did not withstand the pandemic, so i’m excited to look for more.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Danielle Golden is an influential Stunt Performer and mom who continually creates opportunities for herself and others. As a female stunt performer, I have had good connections with other stunt women but to this day, all of my mentors in the industry, are men. I can’t pinpoint why the opportunity hasn’t revealed itself, but mentors choose us, not typicaly the other way around. Two years ago Danielle stared a free Clubhouse group for all levels of stunt operformers to talk about what’s current in the industry and how to improve our visibility. She creates opportunities for anyone to connecct directly with coordinators and receive direct feedback. No one pays her, she simply takes time to give back. It’s incredible and admirable.
