We had the good fortune of connecting with Andriy Sovetov and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andriy, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Consistency over a long period of time is more important than most any individual moments or skills.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a pianist/composer, and I write music for various settings from film to concert music. Most recently I’ve finished recording my second piano concerto. Since moving to LA I’ve been able to start working at a piano store which will allow me a space and way to premiere future chamber works I write. The hardest part of being a composer is making a living in order to be able to write, so as long as I can afford to keep writing I can consider it a success. I also have a private studio of piano students I teach and have a few recitals a year with.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA has a lot of good food places, so I would probably just go to different places based on the style of food we felt like having. Solveng is a nice town too although it’s a little far away.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Not really, as a composer you’re sort of last in line of being ‘asked’ to do anything. Often times it’s the composer finding instrumentalists/conductors/ensembles etc, not the other way around.
