We had the good fortune of connecting with Anelia Lazaroff Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anelia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
In the past I would often work in the evening or during the weekend in addition to working . In 2017 I became a mom and out of necessity was pushed to find a better balance between work and life at home. Now, I set more realistic goals, which is key, I carefully consider what can be done in a given time frame. I work only during designated hours and I make sure that I have time to rest and spend with family and friends.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is influenced by the eclectic landscape and mood of Los Angeles as well as my love of modern art, design, architecture, music and fashion. Colorful and vibrant, it blends reality and fantasy with a little bit of humor. I love art that is uplifting, and communicates on an abstract, emotive and sensual level. I always try to achieve those things in my own work. Currently, I mostly work on drawings and surface patterns and I’m always open to collaborate. I offer high quality art prints on my website as well as greeting cards and scarves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Echo Park and love to hang out in my neighborhood and surrounding areas. Echo Park Lake itself is very busy and vibrant with amazing views of both downtown and the surrounding mountains, it’s a fun place to hang out and take in the scenery. If you’re into vintage clothing, especially 90s-2000s era, I would highly recommend the shop Sleeper in Echo Park. Some of my favorite places to eat include Night Market Song and Pine and Crane both in Silver Lake. I also love to spend time in China Town and would highly recommend a visit to Tierra Del Sol Gallery if you’re a fan of outsider art.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my friends at Galeria Vida (galeriavida.com), although they are virtual, they are based in L.A. and showcase the work of many local artists, including myself
