We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began my career in the beauty industry at Visible Changes in Houston, TX, which is part of a well-known chain of salons located in malls across Texas. I had a very fulfilling and successful career there, but I always carried with me the words of my father: “Be your own boss.” It was his dream for me to become self-made, and over time, that dream became mine as well.

While I was thriving in the structured salon environment, something inside me craved more. I wanted to step outside the comfort zone I’d built and challenge myself to grow beyond the boundaries of a corporate setting. I had this inner belief that I was meant for something bigger—something I could create and truly call my own.

Taking the leap wasn’t easy. It meant stepping into the unknown, leaving behind a comfortable and secure career. But it was necessary. I stepped out on faith, determined to build a business that wasn’t just about beauty—it was about personal growth, creativity, and empowerment. And I knew that by doing so, I could inspire others to take that same leap.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At the core of my work, my art is all about helping people feel good about themselves. Yes, I work with hair, but it’s so much more than just styling. For me, it’s about creating a moment of transformation—one where people not only look great but feel amazing too. When clients leave my chair, I want them to feel confident, seen, and celebrated for who they truly are.

What sets me apart is how personal this work is to me. I take time with each client to listen, understand, and pour my energy into creating a look that reflects their personality and spirit. I believe in building a connection, and that’s what allows me to bring my best to the table every time.

Through my journey, one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to protect your peace. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. In this fast-paced industry, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, but I’ve learned the value of staying grounded and focused on what truly matters. When I prioritize my own well-being, I can show up for others in the best way possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I’m not working, I love to recharge in nature. Griffith Park is one of my favorite places to clear my mind and reconnect with the earth. The views from the top are stunning, and the energy there always brings me back to a centered place.

I also love the beach—the ocean air has a way of resetting your entire mood. Whether it’s Venice Beach or Santa Monica, there’s just something special about being near the water.

When I’m in East Hollywood, you’ll often find me hitting up the thrift stores like Out of the Closet and Goodwill. I love treasure hunting—there’s always a hidden gem waiting to be found. It’s a great way to unwind and find something unique, whether it’s for my home, wardrobe, or just because I love the thrill of the hunt.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
