We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Boswell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Locked down during Covid, I realized I could order a sofa, sheets, towels, etc. on line, but if I wanted new drapes customized to my windows, I was out of luck. In retail stores, customers can get only what is in stock. What if the customer is interested in a grey velvet curtain with back tabs and the store only has a curtain with grommets? What if there is only one length? What if there is no lining? I thought about the limited options and “the drape” was my answer.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
the drape is a unique online direct-to-consumer purveyor of custom window drapes/curtains. Curtains turn a house into a home. They are more than a nice-to-have item. Beautiful drapery frames the inside and outside view of the room.   Like an ill-fitting suit,  draperies that are the wrong length or style can ruin the aesthetic of the entire room. I know that choosing curtains is overwhelming for many, which is why the drape offers complimentary designer chats and free swatches. the drape helps customers choose fabric, color, lining, and style from the comfort of home with professional designer help.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Due to Covid, it has been a long time since my BFF has come to visit, but she will be here soon. Our itinerary includes many local yarn stores, a Broadway show and some excellent Ramen.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I attended RISD as a Textile Design Major. I became interested in fabrics as a child, spending time sewing with my mother and weaving and knitting with my grandmother. At RISD I learned about art and design, but more importantly, I learned how to be a creative problem solver. This is a life skill that has served me well, in both my personal and professional life.
