We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Cervantes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued the creative career that I am currently in because I knew that this was the life that was meant for me. Growing up, I never found a liking to anything that didn’t involve being able to put my love and passion for creating art into it. As long as it involved, expressing my identity and the things that I loved and that I’m passionate about, I enjoyed making it and I enjoyed creating it. And still remains the same till this day. I also knew that no matter how much I tried to push away my love for make up, SFX and artistry would always come back and haunt me, and I couldn’t handle sacrificing my own happiness and passion for what I love so I could appease those close to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is me. My art will always be a representation of me and not necessarily how I am feeling but more so being able to fantasize about all these different creations and bring them to life. that is who I am as a person. I think with the creative career challenges will always arise, just like any career, but especially within this one. I don’t think there is ever a point in a creative life where they don’t have another challenge Arising. I think honestly just being a creative as a challenge and its own because you’re working hard to not support yourself, but to support your dreams and to continue to create is not always easy. Definitely me being fortunate enough to have my family support me as a big reason but I’ve been able to overcome challenges within my career that I’ve came up so far. But I do feel like it’s definitely not easy to overcome hardships within your career alone. I think the one thing that I want the world to know about my career is that this is who I am. If you know me, you know that I do not do anything that my heart Has not fully poured into. I refuse to be a part of projects where I’m not contempt with the idea or the result or even the process of it. When you see me or my art I want the first thought in your head to be wow this is fucking crazy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the city, I think the first thing I would take them to do is explore the observatory because that was the first thing I did when I came to Los Angeles and it always is such a good trip you learned so much and also get to see so many different things but a lot of average people have not seen in their lifetime or learned about. I think after that, I Would definitely have them explore some of my Favorite food places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shout out to my family. Without them, I don’t think that a step forward in this career would’ve been possible because of how much I was afraid of pursuing it. They truly help me with taking risk and doing what I love and providing me with spaces to express my creativity throughout my entire life. No matter what they never took away my creativity or my light when it came to that. I would also like to shout out my pets because truly I love them and a big reason why I continue to create and pursue bigger dreams are so that I can create rescuse foundations in their name.
