Meet Angela M Jones | Founder of Who Magazine La

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela M Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela M, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was in middle school, my stepmom who worked for Wilner Kline & Seigle; a big law firm in century city; taught me how to create my first magazine to pass my 8th grade finals for my English class. She recently passed in august of last year and I started Who Magazine La as a tribute to all the things she taught me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
what sets me apart from others is my old soul. I feel like most people my age still are looking for someone to love while I’m looking for someone to show me a new melody…. a new story they wrote…. I live in my art so much that when i look at people i see pictures through their words,

I’m excited and proud that Who Magazine La has grown so fast in less than a year. I started in March of this year with just me and now i have 2 major partners over 15 volunteers and have acquired a food business to add to my business resume. It wasn’t easy getting here coming from watts ca as a foster kid with 8 other siblings and a mother who went to prison for murder. the odds were most definitely stacked against me. i dropped out of hs in 11th grade after being s*x trafficked from CA to Indiana by a family member and was married by 21. I was stabbed by my now ex-husband at 30 and after all of that I ended up homeless back at my 84-year old’s fathers house to become his primary caretaker

What helped me get to where I’m at today was actually admitting to myself, I’m not okay, I was trying to pretend i wasn’t depressed, I tried to pretend i wasn’t hurt, i tried so hard to be palatable so people would like me. i got diagnosed by a mental health professional at ST johns in Los Angeles.

I want the world to know your start in life doesn’t determine your future.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to SHOUTOUT all the people in Oakland and Los Angeles who supported me in my music career before i transitioned to the print business. I would like to give a special shoutout to Grenada on Broadway Outreach Project the very first Non-Profit business for being part of the magazine and being a huge reason for the success of Who Magazine La,
