We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Guo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe every artist carries a vision that’s deeply personal, and their work becomes a kind of tunnel connecting who they are to how they see the world. Art feels like a language that exists intrinsically within each of us, and for me, creating has always been how I explore and express that language. It’s a way for me to see how I think and to process abstract emotions on paper. At times when I’ve felt unsure of who I am, my art has reflected truths I couldn’t quite put into words and documented the different stages of my growth. Through creating, I’ve found the most honest way to have a conversation with myself. Pursuing a creative career isn’t just about making work,it’s about continuing this inner journey and learning how to speak who I am to the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art leans toward a more intuitive and freeform process, allowing emotions to guide the imagery.—a visual documentation of emotions through abstract forms, whether in illustration or tattooing. I’m deeply drawn to the philosophical and poetic side of art, and I see creating as a way to reflect on inner worlds that can’t always be put into words.

I’m constantly breaking and reinventing my style to discover new versions of my vision. That process of renewal—of shifting perspectives and chasing what feels alive—is what excites me most. It hasn’t been easy. Like many creatives, I’ve struggled with doubt, inconsistency, and the pressure to define myself. But the lesson I’ve learned is this: stay in motion. Keep finding something that sparks you. Keep working, even when it’s uncertain.

My hope is that my work can create moments of resonance for others—something honest, something alive—that makes people feel more connected to their own inner worlds, the way creating has done for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say one of my favorite things to do is go to the riverside, anywhere in the city. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit and stare at the skyline in front of you, watching the water move as the whole city slowly shifts its rhythm. As the sun goes down, it feels like the city starts glowing from within—lights turning on one by one, people flowing through the streets, and everything pulsing with energy. It’s the most inspiring thing to just sit there and take it all in. I honestly never get tired of watching the river and city. But I’d also like to take them uptown during the day to the American Museum of Natural History, and then head to the Lower East Side after sunset for some hidden jazz bars, the kind that are tucked away and always make the night feel a little more magical.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to a few people who’ve been pillars along the way. My friend who always picks up my calls and listens to my thoughts with patience. My professors throughout school, whose thoughtful guidance and belief in my vision have meant a lot. My close friends, whose dedication to their own crafts continues to inspire me to grow in mine. And last but not least, my family—for trusting me and believing in what I can make of this creative path.
