We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Myung and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When we first started Poketo in 2003, we did everything by ourselves, even down to pick, pack, and shipping, so we were working non-stop, day and night. It wasn’t until we first hired an employee how different it seemed. After almost 20 years of running this business, we can now say that we have achieved a good work-life balance.

What should our readers know about your business?
Being a completely independent business with no backing or loans, it’s always been a step-by-step growth. Our longevity in running our business for 20 years and constantly evolving and innovating has helped us sustain and grow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So many places to visit and eat in LA. The vastness and being in nature is just a hop and skip away.

Morning: Start the morning making coffee and taking our dog for a walk in our Mt. Washington neighborhood and the trails or go to Griffith Park or Debs Park

Brunch at one of the myriads of dim sum places in San Gabriel Valley, our favorite right now is the Chef Tony’s

Dinner: Depending on the mood, go for Korean bbq at Park’s or Daedo Sikdang, a historic import from Korea.

We will drive up the coast to Big Sur or Sea Ranch for a few days.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ann Lee, our dear friend, a humanitarian, CEO, and Co-founder of Core, an NGO that she founded with actor Sean Penn. Core provides urgent relief to those devastated by catastrophic emergencies, whether it’s natural disasters, wars, and pandemics. Along with the Core team, she set up hundreds of Covid test and vaccination sites all over the U.S. and around the world and is now providing humanitarian aid in Ukraine and Poland. When we run away from bad things, she is the first to jump in and provide help. She inspires me and helps me see how trivial our everyday problems are.
