Meet Anna & Alyssa | Co-owners/tattoo artists

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna & Alyssa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna & Alyssa, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We wanted a comfortable environment to tattoo in that is by and for artists. Anna started Twice Rabbit two years ago. It’s named after a family tradition of saying “Rabbit Rabbit” on the first of the month to wish you good luck. After tattooing side by side for over a year we decided to partner and run the shop together.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a small business in every sense of the word. Staying small has allowed us to be very intentional with every decision surrounding our studio. We are a ground-up company without any outside investors which means work can be as glamorous as tattooing in a music video for an artist client, to driving to Mid-City to pick up a coffee table off Facebook marketplace at 8am. We know what it’s like to get tattooed and we know what it’s like to tattoo, and want to create an environment that is great for artist and client alike. Nothing is easy but we couldn’t be where we are now without eachother and our team. We want people to work here and get tattooed here and feel truly looked after. Staying small means kindness and attention to detail which we pride ourselves on.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Every day I talk about the Burbank international airport. If you fly into it. We will pick you up. We are going to Maru for matcha (bring roughly $27 for this transaction.) We are walking up to the observatory and praying the smog isn’t too bad. After that we are coming into the studio and doing a little tattoo (or three.) Then we are walking along the LA River and getting snacks from Spoke (hope it’s not a Tuesday). Let’s check out a weird movie at the Alamo Downtown (you will feel sick after climbing the rotunda of a parking structure.) And then we are eating Villa’s Tacos off the hood of Alyssa’s Nissan Altima. The rest of the week is up to you.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our shop wouldn’t be what it is today without the wonderful artists who worked and have guested here. Our small team has grown and seen such exciting and big moments from throwing flash events to fundraisers. And we critically wouldn’t be where we are without our clients. It means the world that people love the shop. Seeing familiar faces and catching up with our regulars is what it’s all about.
