We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Collard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had been working in the Interior Design business for almost twenty years and felt it was time to go out on my own. My family had moved to the South Bay, and I had four young kids, which made it challenging to work a 9-5 job, so I felt it was time to take the leap and start my own business.
What should our readers know about your business?
Anne Collard Design is an interior design studio based out of El Segundo, CA. I like to work collaboratory with my clients and contractors and specialize in sophisticated coastal design. I have worked at several design studios and businesses in the past, which provided me with a great deal of experience before launching my own firm 10 years ago. I work with people, and I really love the relationships and friendships I have made with mu clients over the years. I have been lucky to work with some wonderful contractors as well, who have taught me a great deal. I feel grateful to do what I love, which allows me to work for myself and spend time with my family as well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to come visit Los Angeles, I would start each day with a walk on the beach in El Porto, a latte in hand and walk to the Manhattan Beach pier. This is my favorite way to start any day, there is not much better than starting the day with a walk on the beach. One of my favorite things to show visitors, is the beautiful drive up the PCH to Malibu and lunch at Neptunes Net. I do love driving up Sunset blvd from the PCH and show friends Pacific Palisades, a quick hike up Temescal Canyon to take in the gorgeous view, and then pop by the Brentwood Country Mart for a little shopping and people watching before retuning to the South Bay. I lived in Santa Monica for years, but love living in the South Bay now and being removed from the hustle and bustle.
One of my favorite places to go is the design quarter on La Cienega Blvd in Los Angeles. Store like Hollywood at Home and Harbinger are just a couple at the top of my list, and I always stop off at Maison Midi, it is so charming and filled to the brim with treasures.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Over the years, I have worked with many people that have inspired me and taught me so much. In the last few years, I have formed a group of designers in the South Bay where we help each other out and encourage each other so much. This amazing group of women, as well as the support and love from my family, has been extremely invaluable to me.
