Meet Anne Yasmine

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Yasmine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anne, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I initially saw art as an outlet, a cathartic space where I could perform, express, and find release. In Indonesia, that space had its own spotlight and I was fortunate to experience the highs of recognition and momentum. But it wasn’t until I moved to New York City that I understood why I truly chose this path. Pursuing an artistic career has a way of humbling you. It strips away illusions and constantly nudges you to face yourself, to be honest, to be vulnerable, even when it’s uncomfortable. The rejections, creative blocks, and quiet moments in between work have taught me more about resilience and self-awareness than any stage ever could. It’s not just a career, it’s the most honest way I know how to live.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My artistic journey started in Indonesia where I saw creativity as an emotional outlet. Performing gave me joy and visibility, but it wasn’t until I moved to New York City that I realized what this career truly meant to me. Studying Narrative Psychology and Cinema at NYU helped me understand that storytelling is not just about performance, but about honesty, healing, and facing myself.
What sets my work apart is how I merge performance with emotional insight. My films and projects often explore identity, cultural memory, and vulnerability. It hasn’t always been easy—moving to a new country, starting over, and facing rejection—but these experiences taught me how to stay grounded in my values. I want the world to see that art can connect us, hold space for reflection, and offer meaning in difficult times.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I always want people to try a little bit of everything of the city. For a week long trip, I’d definitely take them to the downtown, especially by the riverside, both West Village and East Village. I always love to introduce people about the history of NYC, Wall Street, Battery Park, Pearl Street, Trinity Church, it’s a good area to start. I will always bring them to the parks and the Botanic Garden. I’m all about frolicking and enjoying nice weather outdoor. Don’t forget the beach from Coney Island to the Rockaways. But there’s so much more to New York than just the city. When we go just a little up more pass Harlem, more areas are just breathtaking. If my friends are adventurers, maybe we’ll even visit the gorges in Ithaca, or the Niagara Falls.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are too many people and support systems who helped me become the person I am today! But especially I’m giving shoutout to Putri Ayudya and Nosa Normanda, two of my mentors all the way in Indonesia who not only believed in me to be multitudes, but also keep on supporting other filmmakers to create art that we’re proud of. I also want to give the loudest shoutout for all the dogs in NYC. Let’s be honest, they’re a dose of dopamine when days are heavy in the city.
