We had the good fortune of connecting with Annika Maya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
: I’ve been knee-deep in the lingerie industry and the sex industry for a few years, dealing with crotchless panties and all sorts of cheeky designs. One day, my boyfriend and I are having one of our usual conversations about starting our own thing, you know, something that’s uniquely us. And then, out of the blue, he drops the bombshell: “Le Sex!” Inspired by those funky Hollywood sex shops from the 70s. I couldn’t help but burst out laughing! But hey, that’s where the magic happened, and the rest is history!

it’s been incredible! We’ve already sold a bunch of designs, which is just mind-blowing. People seem to really vibe with our clean yet chic mesh aesthetic, which was totally influenced by Vivienne Westwood’s early days with the Sex Pistols. It’s been such a thrill to see our vision come to life and to have people resonate with it. We’re just getting started, and I can’t wait to see where this wild ride takes us!

We’re also going to start carrying other designers on our website too! Lots of branding lots of fun and more to come!

 

What should our readers know about your business?
Our line is growing and we are venturing out with more ideas. I cannot get into specifics as of right now about it but, it’s all things coming to the forefront soon! We launched about a month ago and everything is currently hand made! As we grow more I am sure they’re may be challenges but, since it’s been so organic and styles have been selling out! I’m still learning but, being in the lingerie industry business has taught me what the market needs and wants! I just want people to feel sexy and edgy! This whole concept began with the idea of becoming my own business with Rony Alwin and executing a sexy clean chic punk rock! aesthetic

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When hosting my dearest friend, I’d first lead them on a tour of the Valley, my cherished home. We’d begin with a visit to the Safari Room, a culinary gem that effortlessly transports diners to the glamorous 1970s era with its authentic mid-century decor and exceptionally kind waitstaff. After savoring the delicious cuisine, we’d meander through Toluca Lake, renowned for its exquisite vintage boutiques. Our adventure would then ascend to the Observatory, followed by a serene hike around Lake Hollywood, where we could catch glimpses of iconic landmarks like Madonna’s former residence and the illustrious Hollywood sign. As the evening unfolds, I’d treat my friend to an elegant dinner, perhaps at the esteemed Polo Lounge nestled within the Beverly Hills Hotel, before dancing the night away, with any luck, to the tunes spun by yours truly as the DJ.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and appreciation for the amazing individuals in my life who have played such a significant role in supporting and inspiring me. First and foremost, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to my boyfriend, Rony Alwin. His unwavering encouragement, talented creative photography/art direction for this project. I thank him for the endless inspiration have been a driving force behind our creative endeavors. I’m truly grateful to have him by my side. I also want to acknowledge our friend Maritza, the brilliant mind behind G spot. Maritza’s talent as a designer has brought visions to life in ways I never thought possible. Her dedication and expertise have been instrumental.

Last but certainly not least, I’m incredibly blessed to have the love and support of my family. Their constant encouragement and belief in me have given me the confidence to pursue my dreams and aspirations without hesitation. I feel truly fortunate to be surrounded by such amazing individuals who uplift and inspire me every day. Their contributions to my life and work are immeasurable, and I am endlessly grateful for their presence. Thank you once again for being a part of my journey and for your continued support.
