We had the good fortune of connecting with Anoop Surya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anoop, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a kid, I watched a lot of movies and TV shows that shaped the way I looked at and understood the world. Cinema has always been a reflection of society and a great source of knowledge, inspiration, and, at times, escape for me. I recognize the power of film and media and the impact it can have on one’s life. The fact that I can create a character as an actor and that character can touch the hearts of a world of audiences, whom I might never meet, is phenomenal to me. I pursued my ambition as an actor to be able to create a variety of characters that can emotionally invoke something in people, help them make sense of the world around them, maybe deal with something that they are going through, or just bring some joy into their lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Acting for me is an ever-evolving craft that grows with me. The characters I create for different productions are deeply influenced by the growth I have had in my personal life, in many ways. My effort as an actor is always to humanize the words on a page into a living, breathing soul on screen that the audience is able to relate to.
What sets me apart, is the uniqueness I bring to the screen because of my unique life experience and distinct yet relatable worldview. My discipline, hard work, and attention to detail are also some of the things that make me more noticeable in a sea of actors/performers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently moved to Los Angeles myself and I’m thrilled to explore the city. If I had a friend in town, I would use that as an opportunity to find fun things to do in the city.
I would love to explore parts of Beverly Hills, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, take some studio tours, etc. I would love to hike as close to the Hollywood sign as possible and I want to try In and Out burger.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been blessed with some amazing friends who have helped me become a better human and a better actor. Boz (Clarence Boswell), Ethan Hegel, Andrew Van Camp, Jacob Kaufman, and Rolf Goebel, just to name a few, have been some of the people in my life who have mentored me, supported me, and helped me on this journey as an actor. My parents have been an everlasting source of support and encouragement as well. It’s their belief in me that keeps me striving for success every day.
