We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Fiddler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was in the artist’s position for years. Spending tons of money (I/my band didn’t have) trying to make music and get it out to the world. Fiddler Productions was based on a sense of affordability to help artists get their foot in the door. I wanted to use the tools and knowledge I had to get quality, efficient recordings for the artist and give them something they’d be proud of.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My goal was always to give artists an affordable option to create music. These days, technology has made it really effective to get quality, efficient recordings without big, commercial studios. Having said that, I always champion to use such studios as there really is a difference when it’s all said and done, but we have to recognize that not all artists, especially emerging, have the budget to afford award winning commercial studios.

I was trained and received my diploma for Sound Design and Recording here in Vancouver, so I saw a lot of experience with analog and digital tools for recording. I have an appreciation for all of it. This was the start of a lengthy process to believing in myself and my skills to start doing it at a professional level, rather than just a hobbyist at home. It wasn’t easy as I had to juggle two, sometimes three jobs in order to support the passion and eventual transition into full time music production. Eventually, when enough work to just get by came within reach, I let go of those other jobs and just kept determined to not fail. So far, i’m still in business!

Every project is a lesson. I discover new techniques almost daily working on music with artists. Whether it be on the recording side, or the final touches with post production/mixing.

My proudest moment to date is being awarded “Producer, Songwriter and Recording Professional of the year” provincially, and nominated for “Studio of the Year” nationally. Another milestone was The Josie Music Awards invited me to play The Grand Ole Opry with my wife’s band, The Heels, to play their viral Tik Tok song (produced and mixed by yours truly), “Hush Money”. They went on to win Country Act of the Year during that show.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m extremely grateful to live on a rather lesser talked about location called The Sunshine Coast in BC. A little beach town called Sechelt (pronounced Sea-shelt). I get a lot of friends and artists who do “workations” out my way because it truly is a breath of fresh air with lots to do. It’s surrounded by the pacific and has plenty of beaches during the summer. Winter months are great for community events, especially Christmas time. The breweries are always a go to when we have company. The most fun we typically have in the summer is a couple of the local beaches and Brickers Cider. It’s got a killer property on a field with lunch tables and play sets/games for kids. Great for families and all ages. The town of Sechelt is always great. Super eclectic and cute with lots of mom and pop shops. The restaurants are all worth trying as they are all really great and specialize in different cuisines.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my wife. She put up with hearing the same snare and kick drum for many years while I was getting the business off the ground. We have since bought a home where she no longer has to hear it from down the hall.

My family was a huge support system for me. My brother in particular, being a musician himself and having a charting single in the states years back gave me such inspiration to take the turns I did for my career in music.

My clients! The ones who make all the music and collaborate with me. They trust me to bring their ideas to life and I wouldn’t be here without them taking a chance on me. I can’t name them all because that would be unjust as all of them have helped in some shape or form.
