We had the good fortune of connecting with Antoinette Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Antoinette, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing that outsiders are probably unaware of in the baking industry is the process and time that it takes putting together orders and executing events. There are a lot of long and or sleepless nights. The planning, prepping, ordering supplies, shopping, it’s a lot. Then you have to add in family and other work obligations. Often times you see the finished products and are wow’d but the process behind it can be very overwhelming.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started Heavenly Desserts because I’ve always had a passion for baking. I love the science of baking and how taking simple ingredients and combining them together can create something so beautiful and delicious. I also love making people happy and seeing them smile. It brings me great pleasure and enjoyment when I see the satisfaction that my desserts bring to others. There is no better feeling. I know that there are a ton of bakers/pastry chefs out there, but what sets me apart from others is the giving back and the love that I pour into the community. I do a lot of volunteering, donating desserts to various causes, social media giveaways, feed the homeless events and much more.

The road to entrepreneurship has had a few bumps in it but nothing that I haven’t gotten past. I have a huge support system inclusive of family and friends that has made this journey easier. I pray daily and give my worries to God. Lessons that I have learned along the way have been to always keep the faith and that every thing happens for a reason. I don’t dwell on mistakes as they are a part of life and I try to spread positivity wherever I am. I feel like that is one of the things that my clients love about me. I give them encouraging words and I also support them in their endeavors.

I’m an introvert so I recently rebranded to The Freckled Baker so that I can show my clients more of my personality on a regular basis. I want the world to know who the Freckled Baker is. I’ve been posting more behind the scenes and personal stuff to connect with my followers. I want people to know that I’m human and not just a workaholic. I want others to know that you can be an entrepreneur and still live a fun and exciting life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week and I wanted to show them a good time we would have days filled with non-stop action. We would definitely hit the beach for some fun and sun in the sand. I love the water and tranquility. Redondo and Manhattan Beach are a few of my go-to spots. Food spots are endless but Paradise Cove, Captain Jack’s and Eddie V’s are a must. Even though I’m a pastry chef, I love frequenting dessert/sweet spots. So making stops by Smoreology, Happy Ice and Sweet Red Peach are on the list. Hollywood Blvd and LA Live will keep us busy as there are tons of stuff to do and see. I also love sporting events so depending on the season we would check out a professional football or basketball game. And lastly, you can never go wrong with shopping. I like going to the Pike in Long Beach because you can do some shopping, eat and there is usually some type of entertainment there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family. They have been my cheerleaders and support system since I started my business. They are always there to encourage and motivate me. Pushing my to step outside of my comfort zone. They are there to jump in whenever I need help, lending a hand in several of my events, helping me prep, shop, doing pick-ups and deliveries. They are my taste-testers, my critics, and my listening ears all wrapped up in one. I’m truly grateful for them.
