We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Montilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antonio, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson I have learned is theres a time for work and there is a time to play. I used to be all about working and grinding, but that mentality is only sustainable for so long. I began to run into major burnout, and I quickly realized that it is the experiences I have in my time off that really fuel my creativity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Like many, my career has had a lot of ups and downs. However, I got to where I am today by constantly reminding myself that my dreams and goals are worth fighting for. After I graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design I had spent the last year working as an Animator for ICON Creative Studio. I decided to take the upcoming months off to rework my animation reel in hopes of trying to get into a feature animation studio working as an animator. I hope to work hard and learn a lot in the upcoming months to make my dreams reality. Along this journey, I have been fortunate enough to meet many amazing people and learn many eye opening lessons. The one lesson that has always stuck with me is that life is a gamble, so if you’re going to play the game, you might as well bet on yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I currently live in Vancouver and I would say the best thing to do if someone were to visit me is definitely hike. I personally love any of the hikes near Squamish because they have beautiful views of the bay. I would then take them out to eat at Saku which is my favorite restaurant in all of Vancouver, but you can’t really go wrong with any food in Vancouver.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my my parents. My parents are the ones who told me to go into animation, and every time I have felt like giving up, they have reminded me that my dreams are worth fighting for. Had it not been for their belief in me, I would not be where I am today.
