We had the good fortune of connecting with Apoorva Sankar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Apoorva, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it. – The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho ✨

As a child, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho had a huge impact on me. This book not spoke to me about karma and the signs of the universe. I believe that if you really believe in yourself and really strive to accomplish your goals, you automatically see all the pieces of your puzzle fixing in together.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m Apoorva Sankar, an Indian film editor based in Los Angeles. I graduated from Dodge College of Media Arts, California, with an MFA in Film Production (Editing Emphasis) and a Bachelors in Literary honors from Mumbai University, India. My journey began three years ago in India, where I found my film passion. I was introduced to many different authors and enjoyed reading as a literature major.

Currently, I’m a freelance film editor and work in a trailer house where I assist editors. I’ve realized success in film editing is about how you bundle creativity into a fantastic outcome using the canvas of the entire post-production workflow process within deadlines.

It wasn’t easy to be a part of this industry as the fear of competition constantly meanders around. But I remained persistent and focused and also have friends and family who continuously motivate and push you towards your dreams

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has such lovely weather throughout the year, especially for someone who doesn’t enjoy the cold too much!

I love going around the city for a good walk or trails. I also enjoy Asian food, especially Sushi! I would recommend a road trip to Big Bear, a peaceful beach day at Laguna, or a nice long hike to Mount Baldy!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shout Out goes to Ragini Bhasin, a talented director based in LA. Her humanistic approach in her story telling makes her stand out from any other director I’ve worked with. She has a charismatic personality and loves working with kids and people. Her aura on set is usually very positive and she loves learning from her experiences and people.
