We had the good fortune of connecting with Arianna Han and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arianna, why did you pursue a creative career?
Before I was six, I lived with my grandparents while my mom was busy. It was pretty challenging, dealing with a 50-year age gap. They loved me a lot, but there were times when I just had to rely on my imagination to keep myself entertained throughout the day. Looking back, that’s really where my journey as an artist began.
Growing up, even though a lot changed in my life, my passion for drawing never wavered. It became more than just fun; it was also a way for me to cope and express myself. When it came time to decide on a career, I was inspired by Pixar movies and other CG films, and that’s why I chose to go into 3D art. It felt like a natural progression from the worlds I used to create in my head as a kid.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In reflecting on my journey as an artist, it’s fascinating to see how much I’ve evolved from a high school student who was immersed in traditional art to now, a 3D art professional adept in the latest technology. This evolution wasn’t just about shifting mediums; it was a transformation from working solo to becoming a part of a team environment. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through these years is the immense value of community support. Whether it’s reaching out for help during challenging times or lending a hand to others, the encouragement I’ve received from peers, professors, and supervisors has been pivotal in my growth.
On a more personal note, I have found a delightful escape in my side hobby—my hamster art series. This project began unexpectedly during my junior year at university when my mom brought a Syrian hamster, Lan, into our home. Lan quickly became a major source of inspiration for my daily doodles. What started as a personal project has blossomed into an engaging community on Instagram. My account, @nioom_sketch, has become a sanctuary where I connect with other hamster lovers and share snippets of joy and creativity. It is more than just a hobby; it is a vital part of my artistic expression and a cherished escape from the pressures of professional life.
These reflections not only highlight my professional milestones but also underscore the deeply personal connections that fuel my creativity. Every day is a chance to spread more joy through my art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friends were visiting for a week, I’d make sure to pack it with unforgettable experiences! We’d start with a day trip to Japan Village to immerse ourselves in Japanese cuisine(and tons of anime merch). It’s a perfect spot for exploring unique shops and enjoying some delicious food.
Next, we’d hit Manhattan Beach for some sun and sand. It’s ideal for a relaxing day by the sea, maybe even catch a volleyball game or just chill with some ice cream. The mini aquarium is also fun and photogenic from afar.
From there, we’d shift gears and head to Joshua Tree to experience the stunning desert landscapes. The vastness of the desert, contrasted with the city, makes it a profound, almost spiritual visit.
Over the weekend, I’d take them to my favorite spots for some treasure hunting—the Rose Bowl Flea Market or the Melrose Trading Post. Both places are fantastic for finding one-of-a-kind items, vintage clothing, and local crafts. It’s a fun way to dive into the local vibe and maybe find some special souvenirs to take back home.
Throughout the week, we’d explore local eateries, from cozy cafés to vibrant bars, ensuring a taste of the city’s best flavors. With this mix of nature, culture, and local hangouts, the week would not only show off some of the most interesting and exciting spots but also give us plenty of time to catch up and make new memories!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really want to give a huge shoutout to Thea Li and Katrina Xiao for their incredible support since I moved to Los Angeles. They’ve been amazing. Also, a big thanks to the Rebecca Everlene Trust Company for giving me my first opportunity as a 3D Generalist.
