We had the good fortune of connecting with Arielle View and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arielle, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Sometimes I feel like I have a great grasp on this idea, and other times I make choices that eventually put me in a position where I long for it haha. Definitely an opportunist, so it’s hard for me to say “no” to creative jobs and experiences!

Actually (and this is still a developing thought), over time I’ve come to think that there’s no such thing as “work life balance”, and that its unattainable. Parts of our lives will always take priority over others, and these parts will adjust over time as we do. Kind of like a pie chart where the slices of pie are added and/or taken away. And that’s totally okay. It’s just life. 🙂

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a naturally outdoorsy person, I wanted to shoot more in nature and create with client friends who valued time spent there as well. In my opinion, you don’t have to choose between the venue and the nat-geo worthy photos- you can and absolutely should have both! I love a good backyard wedding or Hacienda-style venue, but also making the trek to Joshua Tree or Yosemite, heck even barefoot photos on the beach. It just feels so freeing and I am SO proud of the way I’ve built my business to align with who I am as a person.

It definitely took time to get here. When I first started out, I would ask other photographers questions, take online workshops, attend content days (all things I definitely recommend doing if you’re looking into starting your own business). Through this I learned so much, but often found the backend of my business functioning and my work looking the same as everyone else’s. That being said, I needed to learn this way to find out what I wanted Arielle View to value and feel like. However grateful I am to have found my own path now, I am just as grateful to those who were so willing to share their experiences for me to learn from. We’re all just figuring it out together. 🙂

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Tbh if I had a friend visiting, I’d love to take them outside of the city haha. Maybe a few days up the coast for a camping trip in Big Sur or to Joshua Tree for some bouldering. Ooh or maybe split the week between Mammoth/Yosemite for some hiking and 1-1 outdoor time.

However, if they were looking for something more local, I’d plan each day with a cool place x food. For example, a day at Knott’s with Porto’s cheese rolls, or an afternoon at Laguna Beach with some sammies from Broadway Sandwiches, or take them surfing in Seal Beach for some nice baby waves and get cheese on a stick at Jane’s Corndogs after. Clearly I’m into cheese haha.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents are the BEST and have supported me in every creative pursuit, especially photography! They gifted me my first DSLR in 2012 and encouraged me to explore this new hobby, even when I didn’t touch it for years (whoops hehe). All these years later that support has never wavered and I will always be grateful to them for loving me this way. My boyfriend has also been by my side, lifting me up, teaching me, and being a safe place where I can share new ideas and seek counsel when needed.
