We had the good fortune of connecting with Asami Kuroki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asami, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Japan. I moved here when I was 15 years old and attended a boarding school in Connecticut. I have always felt that the US has been my home since childhood. My parents, who were artists, supported my interests in the arts. I grew up doing what I love: doing hair, make-up, oil painting, making sculptures, contrasts, drawing, and making props. Lastly, I love animals, especially rescuing animals. I have always followed my heart.

Who I am today? My dream came true! I’m grateful for everything I have.
I have a successful grooming business, and an animal Sanctuary with my best friends.
I have been busy and happy taking care of farm animals, exotic animals, dogs, and cats. When I look back on my memories, I dreamt of my future being with animals, including pigs, goats, chickens, bunnies, monkeys, dogs, and cats living in the mountains.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I built a high-end pet grooming business. I am self-taught, learning everything I could about my business on my own. When I was starting my business, I purchased a booking planner. I began writing to prospective clients advertising my business. I focused on gaining those clients, and believing it would happen. I noticed after a few months to a year or so later, they became clients. My planner was getting filled, and next thing you know, I was booked all year around. My clientele grew from one, to their friends and their families. My service is not just grooming since I’m a medical foster for most animals. I know how to advise healthy care for animals. I also spend much time with the animals before grooming, especially the dogs and cats who were nervous or had special needs. We take our time. My service is of the highest quality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m vegan! I love to explore and find vegan restaurants! My favorite one is called Puro Vida, a vegan Italian restaurant. I also love to see live shows! My best friend and I try to see shows once a month. My favorite bar is Idle Hour.
My lifestyle is busy, and I have an animal sanctuary and a grooming business, so I usually stay home and cook delicious vegan food with my friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m grateful to my friends, my best animal rescue partners on the planet! We have an amazing animal rescue organization called Orange Twins Rescue!
Meeting them forever changed my life for the better.
I’ve studied to improve myself and have done work, going on spiritual retreats, breath work, cold plunges, and have read many books, such as Joe Despenza, Tony Robbins, Rhonda Byrne, and Eckhart Tolle,
