Meet Ashley Turner | Social Event Planner & Creator of Fun

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If I think about it, the whole initial concept for Los Angeles Fun Events never would have come to exist had it not been for a decent amount of risk-taking. As an introvert, meeting up with a group of strangers from the internet to do fun things around the city (think hiking, kayaking, museums, movies, etc.) was something that really put me outside my comfort zone. Showing up, I’ve realized, is the hardest part– when you show up, you are opening yourself up to new friendships, relationships, adventures — not only do you learn more about the city and people around you, but you also learn more about yourself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Los Angeles Fun Events is all about building community in every sense of the word. We embrace anyone who is either new to Los Angeles, or an established veteran, looking to get outside, meet new people, make new friends, have adventures and explore the city. We run long list of social events and activities from Night Markets and Karaoke Nights, to Camping Trips, Group Hikes, Museum Days and Outdoor Socials. On an average week, we host anywhere between four and six different events. We welcome everyone who is interested in joining our community, regardless of your age, gender or ethnicity. Come with friends or join us solo, either way, you are guaranteed to have a fun time and meet others looking to participate in similar activities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would happily bring any friend of mine along to our weekly Los Angeles Fun Events line up. This could look like the following:
Thursday Night: Join a group of new friends dining at the Lobster & Beer outdoor patio in Palms — as a former New Englander, my standards for seafood are pretty high. This place is IT. Best lobster roll around, and the prices and happy hour can’t be beat.
Friday Night: Come take a salsa dance class with other singles, taught by Nicole Gil at Dancer University in West LA. Afterwards, we’ll have some tables reserved at the cutest cocktail bar in West LA, Sorry Not Sorry — Here we’ll get to chat, hang out and order some drinks and food after class.
Saturday Night: Come check out the newest Night Market in LA (built entirely by us!) — It’s called Interaction Night Market; we host it once a month in DTLA at HiDef Brewing. What makes this night market different is that it encourages everyone to interact — we have a scavenger hunt to get people talking and interacting we different vendors, we have games to get everyone chatting and getting to know each other; and HiDef just introduced the greatest new karaoke setup, which we always follow our events up with! Come try some up-and-coming food vendors like he Smoke House BBQ, Stacey’s Bistro, Pupusas Chalatecas, Layers Donuts, 0.5 Croffle, and artists like Made By Lynds, Rebelvis, Gold Pony Designs, Basic Nailcessities and many more!
Sunday Morning: Join some new friends for a hike to Escondido Waterfall in Malibu — we will hike and explore together, and grab a bite to eat next to the ocean afterwards.
Sunday Afternoon: Let’s wrap up a fun-filled week with Board Games & Brunch at Sorry Not Sorry– check out some of the latest social games, including Cards Against Humanity, Happy Salmon, Bad Choices, Stir The Pot, Sing That S***, Taboo, Joking Hazard, Exploding Kittens, Mantis and many more.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To all of the local businesses in Los Angeles who took a chance on us, and were open to the idea of growing together. Notably:
Hidef Brewing LA
Sorry Not Sorry
FlyFit Aerial
Dancer University
The Next Fun Thing
Lobster & Beer
Downward Grog Yoga
and all of our vendors and artists that have contributed in creating a fun and vibrant event atmosphere.
