Meet Asia Mobley | Founding Editor of Rare Radar + Publicist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia Mobley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Asia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In life, we have a bunch of socialite norms that often restrict us from being our best selves. People are concerned about how they’d be perceived or how they will make ends meet.
I was raised to do what makes me happy NO MATTER WHAT. As a I get older, I appreciate that being instilled in me even more because I’ve learned to detach myself from fears and take risk. You can’t lose when you choose happiness and bet on yourself.
Taking risk has led me to be where I am today, because during the early stages of the pandemic I was working in healthcare. A big part of me loved what I did because I love helping others, but as an essential worker my daily task quickly became stressful. I knew in my heart it was time to get back to my roots. After several breakdowns, I decided that my mental health mattered the most so I decided to leave that career field and take a break from work for a couple of months.
During that time, I did A LOT of journaling and self-discovery. I started creating content for my blog during my spare time, and a simple tweet of me expressing my desire to step back into Public Relations again led me to becoming a Publicist and Talent Manager at One Brand Group.
Now a year later, my team and I have been able to secure several partnerships for my blog. I’ve also been able to secure clients placements in Forbes, Essence, Sheen Magazine, STL American and more.
If I didn’t take that leap of faith and focus on my deepest desires I wouldn’t be where I am today. The pandemic taught me that we only have more life to live…we might as well make the most of it while we can.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got my start in media by working as an advertising manager/student writer for The Forum Newspaper at STLCC-Florissant Valley. While there, I fell in love with the art of storytelling and did several internships at media companies such as Karen Civil and RESPECT Magazine.
I’ve always been known as the “go-to-girl” for just about everything pop culture, so I took the skills I learned from my internships and launched my own blog called Rare Radar in 2016.
After graduating from STLCC, I began working on various noteworthy PR projects, gaining media contacts locally and nationwide. My media background gave me the tenacity needed to research and create individualized pathways for different projects. As an award-winning print journalist and publicist, I serve as the voice behind my clients and I love being able to do that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
St. Louis has so many hidden gems!! Each part of town can give you a different vibe.
I’d suggest exploring the grove, central west end, Cherokee, forest park, Main Street, the loop or downtown. Each one of those areas have nice food spots and even cool spots to take pictures for your Instagram.
If you’re looking to explore the city on a budget, STL is the perfect place because a lot of things are free or fairly cheap.
I’d also suggest joining “Dates & Things to Do in Stl” on FB for more insight on what STL has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Genella McCrary has been a HUGE impact on my story. We met at STLCC-Florissant Valley. I was an advertising manager at the school newspaper and she came in as the managing editor. During our time working together, we quickly learned that we are two peas in a pod. She became the mentor/big sister I always wanted. As she progressed in her career field in the media; she took me along with her and that allowed me to get a BTS look into the industry and to sharpen my skills as well.
