We had the good fortune of connecting with Aurora Ave. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aurora Ave., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started as a band in 2020 during the pandemic. Starting the band almost felt like it was out of necessity. We were all in high school, and had lost our sense of community, or connection. None of us had outlets. We had our first rehearsals as a band in Koh’s backyard.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I know we’re really proud of our sound, as in it is truly a part of each of us, and is quite eclectic for that reason I think. Each of us has a really strong taste, and unique style. We’re an eight-piece band, of course that’s going to come with some diversity. It can be an extra challenge to make these sounds cohesive, but it’s part of what makes our sound what it is. The band was birthed out of adversity too. We started playing together during the 2020 pandemic, while we were all still in high school, so our first year of shows and rehearsals were all outside, or under a carport when it rained. Being from Seattle, it rained a lot, but that didn’t stop us. We’ve been together for 4 years now so thankfully the weather and circumstances didn’t stop us. I think that determination in us is really special. We all go to college still all across the country, but still consistently make music and try to grow as a band throughout the year, even when we can’t play live a lot. I think we all feel so lucky that we have been able to grow and sustain a band and audience regardless of our hurdles.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have never been to LA as a band so we are excited to explore! I (Henry) got to school in LA, so I am looking forward to taking them to some of the tourist spots, but I also am just excited to explore the food scene with them. I love the endless street taco stands. The grand central market is also a great excursion. We’re most excited about visiting some of the legendary music venues throughout LA county, like the Whiskey a Go Go. We’re playing there June 30th and are so excited to be hosted at such an important part of live music history. We’re also playing a more diy show at Art Bar LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’ve been a part of a lot of incredible local music communities, and we’d love to shout out the Seattle Theater Group and the More Music @ the Moore Theater program for the mentorship, and support they have continued to provide our band since 2022. The experience that many of our members shared in 2022 with other young, talented musicians was life changing alongside an incredible team of STG producers and Grammy award-winning music Producer Mike Elizondo. The gift has kept on giving as the band has been given a platform by the program. We are about to go on our first tour, playing dates in California for the first time, and we wouldn’t have come this far without them and their support. We also met Samara, our lead singer that same year at the Moore, so it was a meant-to-be type thing.
