We had the good fortune of connecting with Avon Rosales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Avon, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
This is a great question! This reminds me of the challenge I faced from the most recent decision I had to make recently which to come back here in the US with my family and leave my ambition in the entertainment industry behind. At that time, I had to ask myself this same heartbreaking question. I was torned between the unguranteed sustainability of my career in the Philippines and the security of opportunities the US could offer me together being around wiht my family. It was a tough decision to whether I continue (keep going) on the journey of pursiong my dreams with all the risk that goes with it or finally stop or give it up because it seemed to be not going anywhere after I have invested so much time, effort, and money. I thought weighing the pros and cons would help me come up with decision but it just makes it worse considering my adhd mind. Then, I figured they weren’t really meant to be answered nor to be chosen. I realized what I needed is a change of perspective. To be honest, I never knew whether I’ve really went on or gave up. But I learned that I can keep going and not give up without sacrificing the choice of choosing one. And what I meant about the latter is that, in life you do not have any choice but to keep going whether you give up a dream or not. Either way, you continue on with already a basket full of candies. That said, I thought no one really gives up nor no one should give up, but rather consider ‘giving up’ as redirection. When all these sunk in to me, coming up to a decision has never been easier and lighter. Because now, knowing wasn’t a choice of advantage/disadvantage over the other but more so knowing that I’m not empty handed and have gained already the skills, experiences, even the confidence whichever path I choose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

BIOGRAPHY
Avonn Rosales is one of the most promising Filipina multimedia artists of her generation. Her passion for media and the arts begun as a young girl inclined towards acting, singing, and modelling. However, she had to set this young dream aside when she lived in the US for 10 years and pursued a thriving career in the banking industry. Her young dream didn’t fade though but even grew stronger through time. She started to gain connections in the show business industry which led her to decide to head back to the Philippines and finally kickstart her stint in the local industry. Since then, she gained substantial acting experience working with Viva Entertainment and ABS CBN. She also participated in several modelling, singing,
music video, and commercial endeavors. On top of these, she also makes it a point to give back by spearheading acting workshops for aspiring artists all around the Philippines, mostly, through local church ministries. She also has an extensive marketing experience, even assuming dual role in some productions both as an artist and as a marketing person. She is known among clients as a woman of integrity, credibility, hard work, and trustworthiness – all these aside from the beauty and charm she naturally exudes.

History of my career and message–

Just like any filipino kid, I love to sing in the karaoke. I was “behind the scenes” to my sister. When we were kids, it was really my sister who loves to join competition and whom my mom trains. I just watch her. Those were my early years of singing. “I saw all of this as a forgotten dream. I had to put the dream aside as her family had to move to the US at 15. I chose to focus on my studies and later graduated with a degree in Criminology, Law, and Society from the University of California – Irvine and Master’s of Business Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management.

I just re-discovered singing when I was already in the corporate world. During stressful times, I enjoyed the karaoke and watched TFC (The Filipino Channel) after work. I later got the opportunity to be part of events in the Filipino-American community in the US. My event gigs led her to doing front acts for visiting Pinoy artists like Angeline Quinto. One thing led to another as she met people in the Philippine music industry.

With a strong support system that is my family back in the States, I eventually packed my stuff and moved back to Manila to pursue a showbiz career. I was signed up to be part of Viva Artists Agency‘s roster of talents and handed acting opportunities. I landed supporting roles in independent film (Mulat) and TV (ABS-CBN’s teleserye All of Me). I had the opportunity to work with talented actors Ryan Eigenmann, Jake Cuenca, and Albert Martinez, Kathryn Bernardo and many more filipino renowned artists. And that was something I recalled with so much fondness.

What I didn’t grow fond of a few years ago were the demands of being part of a teleserye. I was overwhelmed by the hours and found myself in a burnout phase. Going back to the US for work became my fallback.

However, the call to the arts was still so strong. Instead of taking on a career abroad related to my university degree, I embraced caregiving jobs so I could do event singing on the side. I also immersed myself in trainings and voice lessons to get better. Soon enough, I found myself returning to what I truly love and give singing and acting in the Philippines a second try.

With renewed love my craft, I have released music with Viva Records and plan to release a mini-album by early next year The twists and turns along the way allowed me to realize that being where I am right now is a blessing and that there is more for me to hope for.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course, above all I’d like to credit back everything to the Lord. Second to my parents who have been kind and loving enough to support me and my dreams despite the challenges we faced. There’s a lot of people actually who have supported and been part of my journey I wouldn’t be able to enumerate one by one but they should know who they are since I always thank these people. However, there were three women who have served as my mentors and have greatly influenced me– Ate Jen Punzalan (when I was in that season where I was seeking Christ, she took time to meet and disciple me without knowing me prior), Auntie Jovi Boyd (also a season where I was about to give up, she encouraged me to go on and even produced my music), and Ate Jeena Manaois ( who took time to do one on one bible study and mentorship with me).
